Job Description

The Scientist / Engineer - Biomedical will play a crucial role in supporting new program development, providing technical expertise, and contributing to the strategic goals of the organization. This position involves close collaboration with Program Managers (PMs) to drive innovation and support the mission of ARPA-H.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide expert input to PMs in developing and researching ideas for new programs, concepts, and technologies.
  • Assist in formulating strategic and technical plans to advance the ARPA-H mission.
  • Support the development of new programs, including preparing briefings and assisting new PMs in the initiation phase.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of cell/tissue regeneration, bioengineering, or bioinformatics to contribute to program development.
  • Apply expertise in data management/processing, architecture design, cell engineering, biomaterials, cell culture, inflammation, novel device design/fabrication, and field-deployable diagnostics.
  • Develop and deliver presentation briefings to effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
  • Assist in creating strategic plans and technical opportunities within the office's core competency areas.
  • Prepare and update strategic plans and present new start concepts with visual aids for senior Health and Human Services (HHS) personnel and stakeholders.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of testing and demonstrations to support program objectives.
  • Collaborate with performers, government collaborators, and test locations to develop test configurations, detailed test plans, and safety requirements.
  • Support agency-level program evaluation and reporting, including developing and implementing evaluation and reporting frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with Departmental and statutory requirements such as the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) Modernization Act and the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act.

Job Requirements:
  • PHD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in cell/tissue regeneration, bioengineering, or bioinformatics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data management/processing, architecture design, cell engineering, biomaterials, cell culture, inflammation, novel device design/fabrication, and field-deployable diagnostics.
  • Strong experience in developing and delivering technical briefings.
  • Experience in program evaluation and compliance with federal regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in developing strategic and technical plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
