INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST FOR MATHEMATICS

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Instructional Specialist for Mathematics, supporting the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning.

DEFINITION:

Schools need guidance and resources to prepare students for college by meeting the expectations of the New Jersey State Learning Standards.
The Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Specialist to support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by driving key Mathematics initiatives and programs.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in Mathematics curriculum and operations to make a lasting impact on Newark's students and families. This position may also include other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Instructional Specialist for Mathematics will support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by:
  • Implementing strategic initiatives that align with the district's vision for Mathematics curriculum and instruction.
  • Supporting the implementation of curriculum, instructional resources, and professional development in Mathematics.
  • Assisting in assessing the educational, financial, and operational needs of schools and identifying ways the Office of Teaching and Learning can help meet those needs.
  • Facilitating the acquisition of resources for schools related to Mathematics initiatives, and ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
  • Collaborating with Assistant Superintendents, the Offices of Data & Policy, Special Education, Talent, College and Career Readiness, and other NPS departments to develop and implement programs that meet the goals of the Office of Teaching and Learning.
  • Supporting strategic partnerships with community and philanthropic partners to enhance Mathematics programming.
  • Assisting in planning and managing the implementation of the district's summer school programs focused on Mathematics.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to improve resource options for schools across the district.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • New Jersey Permanent Teacher of Mathematics Certificate.


REPORTS TO: Director of Mathematics

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
Salary: $71,794 - $125,971 (2024-2025SY)
Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
Union Affiliation: NTU
