The Office of Legal Affairs provides legal advice, counsel and representation to all the Agencies' offices and program areas and ensures that all matters comply with federal and state legal mandates. The primary functions are organized within four major subject matter areas or units, General Law, Litigation, Hearings, and Transactions.

Responsibilities:
- Assist FEHO Director in the overall management and administration of FEHO.
- Supervise FEHO legal and administrative staff in overseeing review, approval and monitoring of marketing plans submitted by developers of projects financed by HCR.
- Supervise FEHO legal and administrative staff in addressing fair housing inquiries and complaints received by FEHO through the hotline, email inbox and through requests from colleagues in the agency.
- Supervise and provide guidance to FEHO legal staff in the researching legal issues and best practice, and drafting draft legal and policy documents for the Director, HCRs Executive Team, Board Members and Chamber on various fair and equitable housing issues and laws;
- Oversee and supervise the legal internship program and all onboarding of new interns and staff.
- Oversee implementation of the developing NewYorkHousingSearch lottery and application software on behalf of FEHO's processes.
- Assist Director to develop and implement internal policies, procedures and best practices to ensure HCR's programs are satisfying fair housing requirements;
- Coordinate with the Office of Legal Affairs and program staff on resolving fair housing complaints and issues;
- Conduct or arrange technical assistance on the Fair Housing Act's duty to affirmatively further fair housing;
- Create educational materials and provide trainings to improve understanding of fair housing laws for both an internal and external audience;
- Ensure HCR's compliance with all federal and state fair housing and civil rights laws;
- Attend and report on select statewide and national conferences on fair housing policy;
- Undertake special projects and assignments as assigned by Director and HCRs Executive Team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Law degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to, and member in good standing of, the New York State Bar.
- Five years of relevant post-bar experience.
