Project Engineer
Location: Greensboro, NC
Salary: $75,000 - $100,000
Travel: Up to 3 weeks per month, with 40% travel to Connecticut

Job Scope: The Project Engineer plans, directs, and leads the development of a new manufacturing site. This role includes overseeing facilities, maintenance services, and engineering. The Project Engineer provides technical guidance and collaborative leadership to ensure sound engineering practices and effective use of our facilities, processes, and maintenance operations.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan and coordinate the work of skilled staff, emphasizing operations uptime and project management methods.
  • Lead the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program to achieve 100% equipment uptime.
  • Support and provide expertise in safety programs, including OSHA, DEP, and NFPA requirements, and monitor the design and delivery of all safety programs.
  • Lead and direct staff in a cross-functional environment to achieve goals; responsible for recruitment, evaluation, and development of staff in assigned departments.
  • Manage project progress, confer with project engineers, and ensure reporting mechanisms are in place to track development according to schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and all levels of management to establish and achieve short and long-term operating goals.
  • Work with outside vendors and contractors on equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure metrics are achieved for assigned areas and departments.
  • Ensure all operators are trained and follow procedures and work instructions.
  • Lead the plan to develop and design the new Talalay manufacturing site, collaborating with the Director of IT and the new warehouse in North Carolina.
  • Travel up to three weeks per month, with 40% travel to Connecticut.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others.
  • Strong team-building and proactive skills.
  • Ability to balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in automation and implementing new methods in the Talalay process.
  • Skilled in structured problem analysis.
  • Proven experience in capital project management.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, DEP, and NFPA guidelines and plant safety requirements.
  • Strong verbal, written, technical, conceptual, and financial skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project management skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Project) and tools like Gantt, PERT, and CPM charts.
  • Understanding of manufacturing maintenance operations and lean manufacturing methods.
  • Good planning and scheduling capabilities.
  • Strong drive to complete programs timely.
  • Knowledge of CAD, CAE, CAM engineering tools, and Great Plains software.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering; a master's degree is a plus.
  • Ten years of experience in increasingly complex, technical supervisory positions.
