ActiveState is securing open-source software supply chains and enhancing dependency management and open-source software visibility with an on-demand SaaS Platform and CLI tool that lets DevSecOps automatically build any runtime environment using any open-source language ecosystem on any platform.

We're looking for a forward-thinking Technical Instructional Designer who thrives at the intersection of education and technology, to manage our Learning Management System (LMS), develop and implement training programs for a Center of Excellence (CoE), and lead customer onboarding and partner education initiatives. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences for diverse audiences, including internal teams, customers, and partners.

The ideal candidate brings a foundation in engineering combined with a strong background in instructional design, e-learning development, and LMS management. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable, impactful learning solutions that align with business goals, ensuring seamless customer onboarding, partner education, and internal team training through the Center of Excellence.

What You'll Do
  • Create, edit, and manage content for the ActiveState Platform. This includes customer-facing developer and DevOps documentation. Content topics range from quick start guides, how-tos, technical reference (API), concepts, blogs, release notes, and videos.
  • Create written, video, and visual content such as case studies, interactive websites, infographics, guides, contributed articles, and proprietary data-driven industry reports that build brand awareness and inspire audiences to move through the buyer's journey.
  • LMS Management: Administer, maintain, and optimize the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure an effective and efficient learning environment.
  • Create, organize, and manage content in the LMS, ensuring it is easily accessible and regularly updated.
  • Monitor and report on LMS analytics and learner progress to measure the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Training Program Development: Design and develop instructional materials (e-learning courses, videos, assessments, etc.) for the Center of Excellence, ensuring alignment with business needs and objectives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate technical concepts into engaging, learner-friendly content.
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, and other internal stakeholders to gather insights and ensure accuracy in training content.
  • Implement a blended learning approach, including self-paced learning, instructor-led training, and on-demand resources.
  • Customer Onboarding: Lead the development of onboarding programs to help customers successfully adopt and utilize our products and services.
  • Create engaging, user-focused training content that addresses customer pain points and accelerates product adoption.
  • Develop clear and easy-to-understand tutorials, guides, and video-based learning materials tailored to customer needs.
  • Design Learning Pathways: Build structured learning journeys that guide users through different levels of product use, from beginner to advanced, ensuring a smooth onboarding and mastery of the software.
  • Partner Education: Design and implement educational programs for partners to ensure they are well-equipped to represent and sell our solutions.
  • Develop certification programs to ensure partners meet competency standards and enhance the value they deliver to customers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners to continuously improve training content and delivery.
  • Content Strategy & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with instructional design trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve learning experiences.
  • Ensure Consistent Brand Voice: Maintain a cohesive and consistent tone, style, and branding in all educational content across various platforms.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from learners, partners, and stakeholders to refine and optimize training content.

Support Customer Success Teams: Collaborate with customer support and success teams to address common user challenges and improve training materials based on support tickets and feedback.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience with data-driven learning assessments and reporting.
  • Certification in instructional design or e-learning development (e.g., CPLP, ATD, etc.).
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies for learning content.
  • Experience in SaaS, technology, or technical product training is a must.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years of experience in Instructional Design, Technical Writing and Content editing for a technical, software solution
  • Experience creating documentation for products, including scoping documentation requirements, and writing and editing a variety of technical documents
  • Strategic thinker and a phenomenal writer who has honed short-form copywriting and long-form content creation
  • Customer-centric mentality with an innate ability to understand the customer's needs and challenges, and then translate them into compelling content
  • Superior project management skills and a deep understanding of how to manage the priorities of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
