Position Summary
Data Engineer
Information Technology
Full Time
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop procedures for moving operational data into data repositories used for reporting and data analysis employing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools such as SSIS and Alteryx to automate data pipeline services
- Implement and document needed data mappings and transformations between data sources and data repositories
- Incorporate error checking and alerting procedures to ensure failed procedures are caught and corrected in a timely manner
- Develop and support stored procedures and SQL views and queries needed for data access, cleaning and transformations. Implement methods to improve data reliability and quality
- Work with the Office of Institutional Research to identify existing operational data sources to support the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and help develop database schemas and data models to support longitudinal data analysis
- Implement data access controls to support least privileged access policies for data supporting operational and strategic data uses
- Work with clients and the Office of Institutional Research to help develop needed reports and data dashboards; Use tools such as SSRS and Power Bi to develop and support reports and dashboards; Implement data models supporting data reporting needs
- Work with campus leadership to identify database platforms, data reporting and analysis tools, and data ETL systems that support campus data management needs and align with evolving technologies
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science or related field or a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field along with four years of relevant experience
- Experience in data ETL processes and tools such as SSIS or Alteryx
- Experience developing queries and views in SQL
- Experience in reporting data using tools such as SSRS
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power Bi
- Experience using database systems such as MS SQL Server or Snowflake
- Experience working in a team environment
- Ability to effectively communicate technical procedures and concepts, both in writing and verbally, to individuals without a technical background
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
