Description
Due to a promotion, we are currently seeking a new Assistant Director of Public Works to oversee the daily activities of the Engineering section of the department! This includes Stormwater Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, and Construction Inspection.
Through this, they will lead programs with a focus on safety, project delivery, multimodal transportation, development review, and ongoing process improvement. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective leadership, and public engagement and presentation experience.
In addition, Public Works has made a commitment to continuous improvement of department culture and employee satisfaction and development, and the integration of into Capital Improvement Projects. The Assistant Director will play a vital role in these initiatives.
This role also plays a large part in disseminating information to and collecting feedback from various stakeholders, including citizens, City Council, and public and private entities.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management or a related Engineering discipline;
AND
- Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in Public Works administration;
- Required educational background and experience must be commensurate with assigned program area for current vacancy.
PREFERRED
- A Master's Degree in a specialized field relative to assigned program area.
Licensing/Certification
- Must possess a valid driver's license;
- Licensure as a registered Professional Engineer (PE) is required; must possess Missouri PE licensure within probationary period.
