Job Title: Nursing Manager/Director Job Specialty: Perioperative Job Duration: Full Time Shift: Monday - Friday, Days Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Minimum 5 years of appropriate clinical and leadership experience in the area or specialty License: Current nursing licensure in the State of Delaware or compact state Certifications: BLS Certification, Professional certification in a related nursing specialty required Must-Have: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare, or business management field required or currently enrolled to be obtained within 5 years of promotion into position Job Description: - Assist the Nurse Manager with overall administrative direction for clinical and operational nursing practices and patient care delivery on a designated Magnet unit/practice area.- Share 24-hour responsibility and accountability for daily operational activity with the Nurse Manager.- Participate in hiring, promotions, salary adjustments, and termination decisions.- Act as a highly visible role model, demonstrating quality expertise and professional behavior.- Identify and develop strategies to enhance staff knowledge and professionalism.- Direct, mentor, and support staff at all levels.- Enable a Relationship-Based care approach on assigned units. - Identify potential future leaders and engage in succession planning.- Perform routine rounds to establish visibility and monitor care/practice levels.- Participate in staffing as needed based on clinical area requirements.- Analyze administrative and operational functions and implement improvements.- Develop, implement, and monitor performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.- Support a culture of nursing professional governance and mentor unit committees/council chairs.- Foster cooperative and collaborative relationships with other departments and patient care areas.- Participate in the preparation of annual capital and operating budget plans.- Assist in analyzing expenditures and developing plans to offset variances.- Identify new program and service opportunities for the department.- Act as a liaison with other departments to enhance program development and clinical excellence.- Develop and maintain methods to ensure patient, employee, and physician satisfaction.- Perform work safely, adhering to established safety rules and practices.- Report any unsafe activities or safety violations promptly.- Engage with nursing personnel, patients, family members, employees, and other healthcare organizations regularly.- Supervise and direct staff, including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, and clerical/support staff. Key Skills & Abilities: - Knowledge of public relations, administrative concepts, labor relations, management processes, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.- Familiarity with the Magnet Model components and Relationship-Based Care Model for Patient Care Delivery.- Understanding of department policies, procedures, operations, and chain of command.- Proficiency in software programs (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and related computer systems.- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.- Ability to supervise personnel, delegate responsibilities, and evaluate performance.- Capability to plan, organize, and implement policies and procedures.- Ability to respond to emergency situations according to policy.- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
