JOB TITLE: Applications Business Analyst - Level 2

LOCATION: Home Office - Lynnwood

POSITION PURPOSE

Zumiez Applications Business Analyst's primary focus is executing the solution requirements elicitation and documentation process. They work as a technical liaison among stakeholders to understand the people, process & technology in the organization, gathering requirements of varying degrees of technical complexity to support business objectives and helping enable the organization to achieve its goals. They create and execute against test plans and report on testing completeness. They rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and are empowered to perform a variety of tasks under general supervision with creativity and latitude. The Applications Business Analyst may review and guide the work of others, often getting involved to resolve difficult situations, supporting the execution of projects, and reporting to stakeholders on progress. Participates in, grows, and teaches the Zumiez culture.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Elicits the requirement specifications necessary with guidance and oversight to meet the goals for their assigned projects.
  • Manages the creation and maintenance of documentation including, but not limited to: solution requirements specifications, BA plan, project plan, testing plan, stakeholder analysis, use cases, test cases, diagrams, gap analysis, modeling, user stories, and system support documentation.
  • Reviews project defects or bugs and works assigned by the team and works with business partners to determine priority and communicate resolutions.
  • Partners with senior team members in the design and development of application solutions and platforms with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Takes point on troubleshooting issues as a subject matter expert (SME) and helps resolve incidents associated with application solutions.
  • Makes process improvements and looks for ways to broaden the adoption the software development life cycle (SDLC) principles and their application within Zumiez IT.
  • Partners with other team members to discuss potential solutions that match the business strategy with the technology strategy.
  • Executes requirements gathering process, documenting, validating and categorizing then working with business to understand priorities and obtains requirement approvals.
  • Creates and maintains Confluence and Jira boards.
  • Becomes a subject matter expert (SME) of the people, process and technology used in multiple business units and/or application stacks.
  • Partners with team members to create and execute test plans to ensure requirements are met.
  • Partners with other team members to provide status updates to management.
  • May assist in the design and development of integrations between applications and platforms with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Assists in the creation of project plans of varying sizes.
  • Additional duties and projects as required.


JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A) in a related field, or an Executive Certificate in Business Analysis, Academic Certificate in Business Analysis, or an Academic diploma in Business Analysis is preferred and/or 3-5 years of experience as a Business Analyst or business role.


Technical Skills

Required:
  • Intermediate knowledge and abilities with Microsoft Office, Requirements Management, including tools and software development lifecycle knowledge.
  • Intermediate ability to elicit complex business requirements and translate into technical specification documents.
  • Intermediate SQL and T-SQL Querying.
  • Basic API knowledge.
  • Business intelligence platform knowledge.
  • Familiarity with paginated reporting platforms (such as SSRS).

Preferred:
  • Intermediate understanding of Database Structure methodologies.
  • Intermediate data modeling knowledge.
  • Power BI knowledge.
  • Snowflake knowledge.

Nice to Have:
  • Integration platform knowledge (Boomi specifically).
  • Knowledge of various operating systems including Windows, Mac, and Linux.

  • Excellent verbal & written skills, good interpersonal & consultative skills, good listening skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders from the business and technical communities.
  • Intermediate ability to read and understand technical documents, operating instructions, forms, procedural manuals.
  • Intermediate ability to write clear and concise documentation, reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions via various means.
  • Ability to partner with a diverse group of stakeholders, team members & vendors, participating in meetings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to sit at a workstation in an office environment for extended periods of time and work on a PC without limitations.
  • Ability to move in an office environment in order to access files and gather information.
  • Occasional travel to Zumiez production locations, stores, and events.
