Job Description

As the Controller, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our financial health and growth. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for financial accounting and reporting, internal controls, the annual audit process, and tax compliance. You will be critical to Evozyne's efforts towards ensuring financial accuracy and providing strategic financial guidance to support advancing our discovery programs. As a pre-revenue, early-stage company, financial discipline is crucial. You will be an important business partner to management to ensure compliance with our policies and procedures that support our efforts towards such discipline. Evozyne is a Paragon Biosciences portfolio company, and you will work closely with Paragon's Finance team, leveraging their expertise and resources to optimize our financial operations.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Evaluate newly issued technical accounting literature, assessing applicability to the Company, documenting the Company's position and making recommendations for implementation of such literature.
  • Ensure timely preparation and distribution of financial reports to investors and other partners as necessary.
  • Oversee and ensure accurate financial accounting and reporting over complex matters including revenue recognition (including grants) , lease accounting, share-based compensation and fair value measurements.
  • Routinely evaluate internal controls, making recommendations for changes as necessary, to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Perform special projects, financial analysis, and other duties as assigned by management.

Compliance
  • Coordinate annual independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents.
  • Support the CFO and third-party advisors regarding tax planning initiatives and transfer price activities.
  • Maintain and monitor compliance with the company's business related (i.e. non- regulatory) SOPs.
  • Document new process flows and update existing process documentation as needed based on changes in the business.
  • Regularly reconcile all balance sheet accounts with particular emphasis on judgmental accounts, ensuring such reconciliations are supported by objective third party supporting documentation whenever possible.

Collaboration
  • Partner with Paragon's Accounting Operations team to leverage their expertise, including sharing best practices and thoughts to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with Paragon's FP&A team on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Partner with all functions to support the Company's strategic initiatives and decision-making processes.

Required Skills + Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Proven organizational, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Demonstrated experience with versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Self-motivated and curious with a strong desire for continuous learning
  • Strong business acumen

Preferred Skills + Experience
  • Experience with rapid growth in a pre-revenue, early-stage biotech company strongly preferred
  • Experience implementing an ERP system (i.e., NetSuite, Workday, SAP Business One, etc.)
