JOB SUMMARY

Develops, oversees, and administers organizational safety, security, and risk management programs; Maintains and reports status on areas of responsibility; Provides guidance for the senior leadership team as the risk expert for the organization to ensure performance improvement in all risk related areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises organizational risk management programs including but not limited to associated training, policies, and procedures
  • Trains and coaches staff in areas of risk related responsibilities and risk management practices
  • Collaborate with all departments to address and mitigate risk related issues
  • Collaborate with leadership and support teams to achieve organizational risk management goals
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify hazards
  • Ensures that all risk issues and concerns are appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved in a timely manner
  • Identify potential areas of clinical and organizational compliance vulnerability and risk in collaboration with the Compliance Manager to develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provide general guidance on how to avoid or address similar situations in the future
  • Drive continuous improvement activity around clinical risk management priorities and coordinate improvement projects as the lead
  • Act as the local expert in clinical risk management for the organization
  • Possess expert level knowledge of healthcare and safety associated regulations at the federal, local, and state levels, as well as accreditation regulations and standards
  • Lead the investigation of incidents and develop solutions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Conduct and facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA); Identifies root cause and causal factors of events leading to sustainable improvement
  • Apply management processes for disclosure of unanticipated outcomes and medical errors.
  • Participates in regular safety inspection tours of facilities and ensures documentation of findings
  • Follows up on all inspection outcomes to ensure resolution of deficiencies
  • Promote safety and health awareness for the purpose of risk mitigation strategies through internal training programs and developing the organization's annual risk management training plan
  • Develops, initiates, maintains and revises emergency management plans in collaboration with the senior leadership team
  • Leads the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) development, maintenance, and communication for the organization
  • Acts as the lead in emergency management shutdown and reopen of operations during severe weather scenarios
  • Incorporate enterprise risk priorities and regulatory requirements and benchmarks
  • Facilitate risk and safety event data analysis and decision making
  • Support enterprise improvement projects, as necessary
  • Works as a co-lead with the Compliance Manager for all compliance site visits to include Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) visits.
  • Lead violations reporting to any agencies working alongside the Compliance Manager to ensure proper reporting requirements are fulfilled
  • Responsible for the management and processing of claims-related activities, including malpractice and Federal Tort Claims Act, and serves as the claims point of contact.
  • Identify cases that may be potential claims and provide an early notification to leadership, legal, and insurance policies once identified
  • Responsible for assigned annual liability insurance renewals
  • Acts as a liaison with organization's corporate attorneys when needed
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Department to ensure appropriate and consistent sanctions are taken in response to employee violations in relation to risk related issues/incidents
  • Collaborates with the liability insurance carrier(s) and worker's compensation broker, addressing products, services, contracts, and broker fulfillment with clauses of contracted products/services
  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claims
  • Responsible for risk related records retention either by electronic and/or hard-copy
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all computer systems and software used to track data and generate reports
  • Provides accurate and professional level reports as directed or requested to keep the senior management team informed of the operation and progress of risk mitigation efforts
  • Present risk and safety data and efficiently lead assigned meetings.
  • Present and lead discussion of incidents weekly in Performance Improvement Management (PIM) meetings to ensure incidents are being investigated, responded to, and closed timely
  • Co-Chairs the organization's Safety Meetings along with the Director of Information Technology and the Director of Facilities
  • Chair of the Incident Report Team (IRT) Meetings
  • Participates in other organization and project-specific meetings
  • Must possess understanding of importance of confidentiality in relation to investigations, claims reports, legal matters, etc
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to all organizational sites/activities as needed
  • Must be available to lead risk and safety related items outside of regular business hours
  • Must be available to participate in community participation events during and outside of regular business hours and days
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Services Management, Nursing, Risk Management, Health Sciences, or related field required; Master's degree highly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Healthcare Risk Management; Minimum of 5 years in Risk or Patient Safety; Minimum of 5 years with electronic health records (EHR) systems; Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience preferred; Previous experience in clinical care settings preferred
  • Licenses or Certifications:
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management required
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • OSHA Certificate/Training Program completion preferred
  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance preferred
  • Clinical License preferred
  • Criminal Background Clearance:
  • True Health is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and partners with agencies that require criminal background checks. True Health has established policies and procedures that may influence the overall employment process,hiring, and "just cause" for the termination of employees. An employee's careercould be shortened if there is a violation of any policies and procedures.Significant conviction is defined as a conviction or under indictment for any felony, conviction and/or incarceration for any misdemeanors within the last ten(10) years, or conviction and/or incarceration of any computer crime.

Any employee arrested under the auspices of significant conviction records as listed above will be immediately suspended and remain suspended until the charges are disposed of in court. The employee will be terminated for an arrest or conviction of any violation listed above.

DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENINGS
A post-offer drug and alcohol screen is a requirement for employment. Failure to successfully pass the drug/alcohol screen will be cause for the offer to be rescinded. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol screenings throughout the duration of their employment with True Health. If an employee fails to pass the drug/alcohol screening, then this shall become grounds for discipline up to and including immediate termination.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    The employee will work as the needs of the operation require. True Health's standard working hours/business operations occur during the hours of Monday- Saturday from 8:00am - 6:00pm.
