Job Summary
The Police Lieutenant provides leadership, oversight, and delegates responsibilities to Police Sergeant (shift supervisors) and Police Officer personnel. Responsible for the safety and security of all Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff and property. Coordinates patrols and enforcement in all areas on campus and the protection of persons and property. Ensures compliance to policies, procedures, and the authority by the University. The Police Lieutenants will respond to all serious incidents on campus and take the appropriate action in accordance with Federal, State, Local and Organizational laws and policy. Assist the Police Captain with duties and assignments.

- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Supervises and evaluates Police Sergeant and Police Officer personnel performance. Assures all employees are adequately trained, properly equipped and physically fit for duty and to carry out assignments.
- Coordinates and approves all reports, special assignments, attendance, days off, and in-service training. Initiates disciplinary code procedures for violations of conformance to public safety policy regulations. Updates policy and procedure manuals and distribution.
- Oversees the investigation and reporting on all criminal complaints and offenses committed on Jefferson property. Ensures that sensitive information remains confidential.
- Monitors CCTV, computerized access control, emergency and medical alarm systems.
- Assigned to security details, VIP protection and crowd control for special events, and on-campus escorts. Interacts with law enforcement authorities for special events.
- Interacts with local police, District Attorney, or other law enforcement agencies relative to criminal offenses and complaints, and when subpoenaed testifies in court litigation proceedings.
- Consults and advises crime victims focusing on "due process" or methods of reporting crimes to the appropriate authorities (police, District Attorney, etc.) and/or to initiate arrest warrants as necessary.
- Provides assistance as a member of the Emergency Response Team in events such as: fires, bomb threats, explosions, or other life threatening or crime related situations.

Requirements
- Act 235F certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Bachelor's Degree and prior Law Enforcement or Military experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Successful completion of accredited law enforcement academy
- Able to pass Physical Fitness, Psychological, and Drug testing examinations established by Jefferson for this position (all regions).
- PA Armed positions only: meets the requirements of Act 501 and ensures compliance to policies, procedures, and the authority by the University, as well as mandates regulated by PA: Crime Code Laws, PA Act 73, Federal Legislative Law 101-542, and PA Security Officer's Act 235F.
- Law enforcement experience required.
