The Lead Analyst will supervise two professional staff analysts in performing the day to day duties of the Budget Planning and Operations team, including managing internal distributions of centrally managed funds, performing budget research, analysis, and reporting, and supporting UW leadership in the annual budgeting and planning processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management

Provide leadership and manage the Budget Planning & Operations Analysts. Also, provide leadership to the Finance and Budget Strategy team within FPB in collaboration with the Director of Budget Planning & Operations.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Budget Planning & Operations analyst team
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals to create an inclusive environment and culture
  • Manage a team of professionals who will manage internal allocations and distributions of centrally managed funds, perform budget research, analysis and reporting, and support UW leadership in the annual budget and planning processes.
  • Lead improvement projects for Budget & Planning Operations analysis tools and processes, including guidance and oversight of projects and workflow and general project timelines
  • Responsible for management, staff development, career enrichment, and training
  • Provide direct supervision to a team of professional analysts, including reviewing their work products, offering coaching and assistance, and managing workload allocation to ensure balance
    Program Development and Management
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on budget activity for university operations, including conducting regular budget vs. actual variance analysis and performing ad-hoc tasks that involve complex reporting, retrieval, and aggregation of large data sets.
  • Provide concise interpretation and summarization to support specific leadership decisions
  • Facilitate the university's annual operating budget process in Workday Adaptive Planning, including training users, providing support for unit users, troubleshooting issues, reviewing and assessing plan entries, and performing enterprise planning and forecasting entries
    Administration
  • Oversee the allocation and distribution of centrally managed funds including performing complex allocation calculations, transacting in Workday Financials to distribute allocations, providing explanation, training, documentation, tracking and reporting on allocations and distributions, and supporting the university in understanding and budget policies and procedures
  • Ensure training and cross training across on business processes and systems
  • Other duties as assigned

    Oversee 2 FTEs
    Requirements:
    Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field and 4 years of cumulative experience as an analyst, lead or senior analyst or other analyst related role. or related field.
    Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
    1 year of progressively responsible leadership/management experience; demonstrated commitment to developing others to become leaders. Create a culture of inclusion and equity throughout the team while supporting the overall culture of FPB.
    Proficient in using advanced Microsoft Excel features such as macros, embedded queries, and pivot tables
    Familiarity with accounting principles, budget management, and financial statement analysis
    Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to FPB and UW's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
    Desired:
    Master's degree in business, finance, accounting or like field
    Experience working in higher education or state agency experience
    Familiarity with GAAP according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
    Project management experience
    Experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Shiny)
    Proficiency in R, SQL, SAS, Microsoft Power BI, Excel (or equivalents); on the job experiences with data querying, extraction, and cleaning to support reporting, analysis, and ad hoc requests
    Experience in developing training materials and conducting training through a variety of modes and technologies
