Title: Functional Design Manager (Electrical)
General Function:
The Functional Design Manager (Electrical) is responsible for leading the electrical design of shipbuilding projects from start to finish, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and specifications. This role also includes managing a team of electrical engineers and designers and interfacing with other engineering disciplines, shipyard departments, and customers.

This role also includes managing a team of electrical engineers and designers and interfacing with other engineering disciplines, shipyard departments, and customers.
Minimum Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of ABS, US Coast Guard rules, regulations, and US Navy specifications related to shipbuilding design.
- Excellent knowledge of marine electrical systems.
- Strong leadership, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Thorough understanding of vessel design, including wireways/cableways, lighting, power, controls, C4ISR systems, and electrical general arrangements.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Lead the functional electrical engineering process to meet regulatory and specification requirements.
- Manage and perform technical electrical engineering tasks on complex ship design projects.
- Provide technical direction to the functional electrical engineering team.
- Create and maintain electrical engineering design schedules.
- Oversee the production of drawings and assigned deliverables.
- Responsible for budget estimation, monitoring adherence, and tracking the status of assigned projects.
- Manage individual and team performance of assigned personnel.
- Develop and maintain design processes and procedures.
- Provide supervisory guidance, technical assistance, and training to team members.
- Ensure technical compliance with drawing procedures and standards.
- Coordinate with Project Engineers on resource allocation.
- Obtain and verify vendor information and technical data for incorporation into production design and models.
- Oversee model integration of electrical components with other systems and equipment, ensuring interferences are checked before issuing deliverables.
- Collaborate with the Craft team for lessons learned and improvements to reduce costs.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including those related to employee safety, environmental policies, and quality systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Work overtime as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ten (10) years of electrical engineering/design experience in a shipyard or similar environment preferred.
