Position Summary
LCLC is seeking an experienced and talented legal professional with a deep commitment to public interest practice and policy to join a dedicated team of attorneys, case managers, outreach workers, and support personnel. The Managing Director position is an opportunity to spearhead strategic advocacy, and expansion of the comprehensive Community Holistic Defense (CHD) services LCLC provides. This role will oversee the design and implementation of a strategic plan focused on program standardization and improvement, and coordinated outreach and collaboration with the communities we serve. The Managing Director is involved in all aspects of CHD operations, develops and implements legal and administrative program plans and compliance and reporting systems, supervises CHD leadership staff, promotes a positive team culture, builds relationships with key stakeholders, and fosters collaboration across all LCLC teams. Ultimately, the Managing Director is responsible for ensuring that LCLC's service communities receive high-quality, culturally competent, and holistic CHD services.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; reach with hands and arms; climb and descend stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; communicate verbally. The role requires near visual acuity (approximately 20 in or less) to utilize a computer. The employee will be expected to respond appropriately to any verbal or physical conflicts among residents and will need to be trained in de-escalation and emergency protocols as a result.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a residential services position requiring the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and is required to work a full-time work week, as designated by the LCLC Employee Handbook, with periodic longer hours, including potential evenings, weekends, and odd hours. Resident Case Managers may be called upon to cover 2nd or 3rd shift when other Resident Case Managers are out of the office or call off.

Responsibilities
Programmatic leadership
- Design and implement CHD strategic plan focused on program standardization and improvement, and aligned to organizational goals and strategy
- Oversee the development and implementation of programmatic goals, objectives, work plans and policies required to execute strategic plan
- Direct, supervise, manage, hire, train, motivate, counsel and annually evaluate CHD staff
- Establish training practices and policies & procedures that reflect and codify our community-based holistic practice
- Champion professional development, performance management, and culture building to build human capital and connectivity of CHD staff
Advocacy & Expert Status
- Develop deep understanding of needs of North Lawndale and other communities served
- Promote community outreach, collaboration, and engagement at all levels to nurture relationships between LCLC, partner organizations, and communities served. Lead regular community events.
- Develop nationwide knowledge of criminal law practices and policies regarding the treatment of minors and emerging adults at each step of the criminal justice system
- Establish LCLC as the innovative leader for developing specialized youthful defender units grounded in community, holistic, restorative justice values
- Strengthen public relations through media, speaking engagements, panels, and events
- Meet with community and criminal justice stakeholders to lead LCLC initiatives and elevate LCLC as a leader in the field of Community Holistic Defense
Fundraising, Data & Finance
- Research and understand developmentally-appropriate interventions for justice-involved minors and emerging adults and existing best practices
- Create metrics and monitor progress to measure success against strategic plans, program goals, and funding requirements
- Assist data team in building out data systems to best reflect client impact, programmatic activities, adherence to program and logic model, and reporting requirements
- Manage the budget and work with the Executive team in the annual budgeting process
- Advocate for changing budgetary priorities balancing the need for investment in what is needed, divestment from what is not, and resource constraints
- Lead and assist fundraising efforts for community holistic defense and LCLC as a whole
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered, advanced degree preferred.
- 6+ years management/leadership in non-profit criminal justice organization
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Experience with restorative justice practices (including peace circles)
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated experience supervising, and teambuilding.
- Able to effectively coordinate/carryout multiple projects and responsibilities, and work ahead of deadlines
- Experience with and conversant in Information Technology
- Grant-writing and fundraising experience preferred
- Organized and able to prioritize work with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Valid Driver's License, Insurance, and reliable transportation
- Deep familiarity with the North Lawndale community preferred
- Willingness to live in North Lawndale preferred
- Passion for, understanding of, and commitment to LCLC's vision and mission
