The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 48,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines, working in private enterprise and public service.

ULI Los Angeles is one of the largest District Councils in the ULI network and serves over 2,000 members. ULI LA is organized around 14 Committees and 6 Local Product Councils and delivers over 50 mission-centric programs, events, and initiatives a year. The District Council staff guides, supports, and collaborates with the volunteer members to execute the program of work.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, ULI Los Angeles staff which includes an existing Senior Manager and an Associate, and volunteer member leaders to implement the organization's strategic plan, support member-based committees, execute District Council's program of work, and support internal operations.

In this integral role, you'll help ULI Los Angeles grow its reach and influence by supporting member initiatives, coordinating impactful events, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of fostering sustainable and resilient real estate practices. We seek a candidate with project planning and project management experience, proven process optimization skills, proficiency in operational and financial management, and excellent communications and interpersonal skills. The Senior Manager works with members and stakeholders across multiple disciplines within the real estate and land use fields, familiarity with the fundamentals of the industry is preferred.

This role operates on a hybrid model, with a mix of in-office, remote, and in-person event work. The Senior Manager will attend key district events and functions, which may include occasional mornings or evenings.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets for District Council initiatives, ensuring successful delivery with high standards.
  • Operational Support: Provide administrative and operational support to the Executive Director and manage District Council billing, vendor accounts, and logistics.
  • Quality: Ensure project execution and outcome meet quality standards and defined stakeholders expectations.
  • Communication: Prepare status reports and communicate with stakeholders and member/staff leaders.
  • Resource management: Manage resources cost-effectively, including staffing, procurement, and equipment.
  • Team leadership: Lead project teams and guide team members, adeptly resolve issues in team coordination, and promote cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Process improvement: Drive improvements to processes, tools, and templates for assigned projects as well as overall district council processes and procedures.
  • Cost management: Identify opportunities to reduce project costs through advance planning and procurement.
  • Events and Meeting: Attendance and provide support at events as scheduled.


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: BA/BS and/or relevant experience
  • Required: Experience in project or operational management roles in budget management and event planning.
  • Preferred: Experience in nonprofit or real estate sectors and advanced skills in project management.

  • Project Planning: Proven ability to plan and organize programs and initiatives with focus and discipline.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Operational Management: Proven ability to streamline and optimize processes and procedures.
  • Communications: Proven ability to communicate concisely and effectively and represent the organization professionally.
  • Organizational: Proven organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize and stay on course.
  • Professionalism: Tact and experience working with senior business and public sector officials.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), project management tools.
  • Initiative: Self-starter with a proactive approach to project execution and problem-solving.
  • Other: Ability to travel to District Council activities throughout the region, use of personal vehicle required for local travel.
