Description:
Provides primary supervision and support to the Commercial/Member Business Lending (MBL). Oversees Commercial/MBL lending and portfolio management in support of small business owners, individuals who have existing loans with Avenir Financial, and loan participations. Responsible for analysis and evaluation of financial information, structuring loan proposals (extensions, renewals, modifications), recommending loan purchases and sales. Responsible for financial and management reporting, developing and maintaining a member centric culture, ensures loans are serviced timely and accurately. Assists SVP of Business Services in maintaining policies and procedures in support of current operations and in compliance to all rules, regulations, and laws. Performs duties in compliance with regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.

Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field required.
Experience Required: Five to ten-years of experience in commercial/MBL lending and analysis preferred. Previous work experience in a bank or credit union dealing directly with commercial clients, assessing credit risk, funding loans, and overseeing Commercial/MBL loan cycles and portfolios. Experience with loan participation sales and purchases desired. Opening business related deposit accounts a plus. Experience supervising processes and people preferred.
Required Knowledge: Understanding of accounting and finance, including working knowledge of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow. Familiarity with GAAP related to credit risk. Experience with loan documents, lending cycles and applicable rules, regulations and laws.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to analyze financial information, assemble reports with actionable data and make recommendations. Microsoft Office skills. The ability to work with multiple systems. Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with members, co-workers, management, vendors, regulators and auditors. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the commercial lending team to originate and maintain a high-quality commercial loan portfolio.
- Reviews, evaluates, and recommends changes to business products, and services.
- Provides recommendations for changes to products, loan policies, procedures and systems.
- Monitors pipeline workflow and loan officer reviews to ensure prospective loan purchases conform to applicable laws and regulations, as well as credit union policies and procedures.
- Establishes, and consistently updates a formal review schedule for every loan/pool within the portfolio, based on their structure and risk level.
- Conducts secondary reviews of all new and existing credit presentation reports.
- Establishes controls and action plans to mitigate any identified risks.
- Oversees delinquent loans to help ensure they do not become problem or workout loans, and thus pose greater risk to the credit union.
- Interviews loan applicants, collects and analyzes financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
- Establishes and negotiates the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and timing, and imposes loan covenants and collateral requirements.
- Approves loans up to assigned lending limit.
- Sets expectations, coach and evaluate performance of direct reports and team.
- Assists SVP in developing and overseeing the implementation of strategies to expand the existing portfolio.
- Formally presents all final reviews to either the SVP of Business Services or Business Credit Committee for approval.
- Acts as a member of the Business Credit Committee.
- Works with the SVP to ensure proper loan underwriting, structuring, pricing, and servicing of the portfolio.
- Prepare periodic loan reports and updates, including pipeline status, and statistics of the loan portfolio.
- Identifies, reports and recommends actions on any problem loans or loans requiring special attention.
- Ensures annual term loan reviews, property inspections, and the like are conducted in support of policies and procedures. Collects and analyzes information that reflects the current creditworthiness of members and the current risk profile of existing loans.
- Monitors loan payment activities and takes necessary actions to effect collections.
- Responsible for the formal recommendation of loan grades and administration of the Watch and Classified lists.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to members, on business management and financial matters.
- Monitors and provides reports/data on Commercial/MBL loan portfolio to stakeholders in support of planning, budgeting, as well as financial and regulatory reporting.
- Maintains knowledge of current and forecasted economic/market conditions which can impact loan portfolio performance.
- Keeps abreast of governing lending laws, rules, regulations, and best practices.
- Conducts relationships in a manner that enhances the credit unions image, brand, sustainability, and community presence.
- Assists in establishing production and performance goals and department SLAs in support of the Strategic Plan.
- Completes and distributes the Monthly Risk Rating, Past Due, Non-Accrual Tracking, Loan Concentration, TDR/Modification, and other reports essential to a comprehensive analysis of the portfolio.
- Assists in the recruitment, development, training, retention, and progressive discipline of staff.
- Uses tact, diplomacy and respect in all interactions and communications.
- Effectively leads the team to attain credit union goals and objectives using TOP.
- Participates in job related training, programs and attends meetings, seminars and conferences as deemed necessary. Attends/completes all assigned compliance training and education.
