This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of all lab-based machinery while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. The Maintenance and Calibration Manager will lead a team of technicians and collaborate closely with Laboratory Operations to implement proactive and preventive maintenance strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Management:
- Lead and support a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring proper training and ongoing development.
- Create and execute maintenance schedules for laboratory equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Coordinate with laboratory operations teams to schedule maintenance without workflow disruption.
- Calibration Management:
- Ensure all lab equipment is calibrated according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate calibration records and ensure timely recalibrations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve calibration issues as they arise.
- Inventory & Procurement:
- Manage supply and parts inventory, optimizing procurement processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Assist in assessing new equipment purchases and maintain spare parts availability for timely repairs.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure maintenance and calibration processes comply with ISO 17025 A2LA requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and prepare for audits and inspections.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement opportunities for improving maintenance and calibration processes.
- Monitor equipment performance metrics and drive improvements to enhance reliability.
- Health & Safety:
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety within the maintenance and calibration teams.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience managing a maintenance or calibration team.
- Strong technical knowledge of scientific equipment, including titrators, FTIR, GC, viscometers, HPLC, and ICP, among others.
- Familiarity with ISO 17025 standards and compliance.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and managing multiple locations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time, including internationally, sometimes with short notice.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent: sitting, walking, near vision, far vision, hearing, talking
- Occasional walking, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, repetitive motion(arm and shoulder) and lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
- Rare travel requirements.
Safety Requirements:
- Adherence to OSHA regulations and the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in the laboratory.
- Regular training in HAZMAT, OSHA, and General Laboratory Safety, as part of the POLARIS Quality System.
