Job Description:

SUMMARY

Provides leadership in the efficient operation of anassigned shift.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Supervises shift patrol staff, controls and directs all activities, arrests, patrols, personnel assignments and schedules
  • Assists in the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of staff
  • Prepares police officer payroll, duty logs and incident reports
  • Performs the daily coordination of all patrol reports/paperwork for the next shift supervisor
  • Reviews scheduled events and activities, assigns personnel as needed
  • Prepares daily activity report for the Chief of Police
  • Performs basic foot and mobile patrol of campus/college buildings
  • Works on special details as assigned
  • Confers with and advises College personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Associate's Degree
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education
  • Minimum of seven years of demonstrated law enforcement experience
  • Minimum of one full year supervisory experience in Law Enforcement in the rank of Corporal or above
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others in a law enforcement environment
  • Valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy state certification
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license
  • Must have current certifications in First Aid and CPR
  • Must obtain certifications in AED, Awareness of HazMat, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Personal Awareness Protection Equipment within the first 90 days of employment
  • Must be able to meet the College insurability requirements
  • Must be a citizen of the U.S.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Must have good physical ability, aptitude and policing skills
  • Must be able to maintain proficiency with a semi-automatic handgun and other required weapons
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a thorough background investigation, firearms qualification, physical examination, polygraph or voice stress analysis and psychological evaluation
  • Possess working knowledge of law enforcement and security concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Possess knowledge of criminal investigations techniques and procedures, crowd control and vehicle control procedures
  • Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently
  • Ability to interpret, apply and enforce applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Ability to direct and conduct investigations, make arrests, file criminal complaints, detect and prevent crime
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement or related field
  • Previous law enforcement experience in a university or college setting

  • Candidate must be a citizen of the United States, minimum of 21 years of age;
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver's license at the time of application;
  • Must be able to meet departmental standards for qualification and carrying of a semi-automatic firearm;
  • Must also successfully complete a thorough background clearance, physical examination, polygraph or voice stress analysis and psychological evaluation, which shall be no older that thirty (30) days

Special Note: Target Starting Salary Range: $82,875 to$87,125

The final offer for the successfulcandidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon anassessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate'squalifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
