Job Description

The School of Public Health (SOPH), Department of Health Policy and Organization (HPO) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites highly qualified applications for a faculty position as Director of the Preparedness Leadership DrPH Concentration. The Director will provide visionary leadership in developing, implementing, and administrating this exciting new concentration in the SOPH. The concentration will operate independently and in coordination with existing full-time DrPH concentrations housed in the Departments of Health Policy and Organization and Biostatistics. Applicants for the position should hold a doctoral degree in a field relevant to public health preparedness, including, but not limited to, public health management, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, and medicine.

The Preparedness Leadership DrPH concentration equips seasoned public health and healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge, skills, and the strategic mindset to lead organizations and work with communities before, during, and after public health emergencies and disasters. This executive-style degree concentration merges the flexibility of online learning with immersive on-campus experiences.

Therefore, the ideal candidate will possess the leadership attributes necessary to develop and manage an innovative DrPH concentration that draws on the strengths of the existing DrPH concentration but is tailored to a distinct student population. Prior leadership experience in the administration of educational programs is preferred but not required. In addition to the administrative duties related to the DrPH concentration, the Director will have faculty responsibilities related to education, research/scholarly practice, and service. The Director will be expected to teach relevant courses and obtain extramural funding to support their research/scholarly practice activity. The Director will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Organization. Tenure status and rank will be dependent upon experience.
