Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Holistic Well-Being (AVP) and serving as a key member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Director - Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity (SAEO) will provide leadership and strategic direction for all student-facing disability resource and accessibility initiatives at VCU's Monroe Park Campus (MPC) programs. The Director will oversee a team of eight professionals, along with student workers. They will also provide comprehensive oversight and strategic leadership for the two main functional areas within the SAEO office, working closely with the respective associate directors:

Student Accessibility
Case management and accommodation support (academic/housing/dining)
The Assistive Technology Lab
Captioning and interpreting services
Alternative formatting

Educational Opportunity
Testing Access Center
SAEO Scholars First Year Experience Program
Learning Specialist Program
Faculty/Staff Outreach Initiative
Multiple sections of a UNIV 191 (1-credit student success course)

This Director will serve as VCU's resident expert on matters related to student access and accommodations. This role involves regular meetings with colleges, university leadership, faculty, staff, parents, and community agencies. As the primary author and frequent reviewer of institutional policies and procedures impacting accessibility and student services, the Director plays a critical role in shaping a more inclusive environment at VCU. With responsibility for ensuring accessibility for the 3,000+ students registered with the SAEO office, the Director's work also benefits the broader university community. This is an on-site position and is not eligible for remote work.

Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Standards
Master's degree in higher education administration, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, disability or related areas or equivalent experience.
Minimum of six years full-time, professional, related experience in postsecondary disability resources and accessibility, of which at least three of which are in a progressive leadership position.
Proven ability to thrive in a diverse, multi-cultural and complex environment, fostering inclusion among faculty, staff, and students as part of the VCU community.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a constantly changing environment.
Expertise in staying up-to-date with Federal, State, and local laws related to accessibility, accommodations, and disability services.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and public relations skills; demonstrated customer service skills.
Demonstrated administrative proficiency in managing information and systems, organizing programs, planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives as well as budget development and fiscal management.
Strong presentation abilities, including active listening, speaking and writing.
Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
Creative problem solving and adaptability in both collaborative and independent settings.

Preferred Hiring Standards
Terminal degree in higher education administration, special education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, disability or related areas.
Minimum of eight years full-time, professional experience in postsecondary disability resources and accessibility, with at least three years in an Assistant or Associate Director-level role.
