Job Summary

This role will perform all technical training instructor classroom-related activities, practical labs, Air Traffic Control simulator operations for combat control students at the 352 special warfare training squadron, Pope Army Airfield, NC. Instructors will be prepared to support all facets of ATC simulator operations, including: scenario development, software programming, software & hardware maintenance, & creation of lessons representative of realistic operational situations.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Instructors will work in alignment with Special Warfare Training Squadron active-duty Combat Controller/SW Instructors teaching basic Air Traffic Control skills (3-level) to Combat Control students.
  • Instruct students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic levels via classroom and performance training.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Air Traffic Control course materials to ensure they meet career field training requirements.
  • Plan, develop, execute, and evaluate a comprehensive and effective training program.
  • Maintain professional and technical proficiency and accomplish special projects related to specialty area, to include staff surveillance visits to various training activities.
  • Achieve and maintain CCAF-Instructor qualification status.
  • Document processes and provide continual process improvement.
  • Comply with company standard operating policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Education
  • Air Traffic Control (ATC) instructors with previous or current Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) of 1C1XX or equivalent from other branches of the Armed Forces qualify for this position.
  • Associate degree or higher is required, preferably relevant to ATC and Airway Science
  • Operational Air Traffic Control experience, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Oversight (AOV) credentialed, ATC operators (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine or civilian) with a Control Tower Operator (CTO) Rating is required.
  • USAF Basic Instructor Course (BIC), or equivalent is required.
  • ATC instructors must have the ability to operate a simulator system and have or obtain administrative rights to ADACEL Software or equivalent software/hardware.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must have had an Honorable Discharge from the military (if applicable).


Preferred Qualifications and Education
  • Proficient in MS Office related software.
  • Experience with general maintenance and record keeping.


Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in austere conditions, indoors or outdoors, with varying work shifts.
  • Must be able to carry up to 30 pounds for 500 yards in woodland or wilderness conditions.
  • Must be able to work in classroom conditions (on-site) for normal workdays, sitting or standing for long periods.


Additional Notes

Ideal candidate will be former Air Traffic Control with operational experience, as well as having served as an Air Education and Training Command (AETC) instructor. Must be quality focused and able to work with minimal supervision and be able to deliver maximum results with limited time and resources. Candidate must thrive in a dynamic environment and be willing to learn and grow.
