Salary: $77,000 - $95,000 CAD

SkyAlyne is a proud partnership between Canadian aviation and defence leaders, CAE and KF Aerospace, formed to provide a truly Canadian solution for Canada's Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program, Canada's next-generation military aircrew training program.

SkyAlyne has been selected as contractor for the FAcT Program, a 25 year program valued at approximately $10 billion. The program will be managed from the National Capital Region (Ottawa), with three operational locations: Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Southport (Portage la Prairie), Manitoba; and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The scope of the FAcT Program contract includes all training and in-service support requirements needed to prepare Pilots, Air Combat Systems Officers, and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators to meet the future aerospace requirements of the Royal Canadian Air Force. In collaboration with the Government of Canada and several major Canadian subcontractors, SkyAlyne will provide live-flying, simulator and classroom-based training, facilities construction and management, information management and information technology support, site support services, aircraft maintenance and much more.

Job Overview

The Quality and Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS) Specialist assists the Head of QEHS in monitoring compliance in three major areas within SkyAlyne: quality assurance; environmental; and health and safety. The QEHS Specialist ensures that quality, environment, and health and safety processes, standards, and practices adhere to SkyAlyne, federal and provincial policies, rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Head of QEHS in developing, implementing, and monitoring the SkyAlyne/FAcT QEHS-MS System.
  • Developing, documenting, and maintaining quality, environment, and health & safety plans in accordance with the contractual QEHS requirements.
  • Developing and reviewing quality process flows for the various SkyAlyne groups.
  • Performing internal and external quality or environment, health & safety audits as a lead auditor to ensure compliance with contractual, and QEHS requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining an annual audit schedule to submit to the Head of QEHS.
  • Creating and managing, corrective action requests and assisting in the developing of corrective action plans and the timely resolution of findings.
  • Reviewing and evaluating project deliverables to provide an independent review and comment and ensure these conform to customer and corporate requirements.
  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with subcontractors and government officials.
  • Assisting the Head of QEHS in the developing and implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and programs for SkyAlyne and its subcontractors.
  • Identifying tools that can be used to improve the effectiveness of the departmental products and services delivery processes for both technical and non-technical areas.
  • Ensuring compliance with environment and health & safety governmental and regulatory requirements, legal requirements, and internal policies.
  • Participating in the management and monitoring of suppliers QEHS performance.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and producing standard and ad hoc QEHS metric reports for the Head of QEHS.
  • Acting as a resource to the Workplace Health and Safety Committees in all SkyAlyne sites, on all concerns with any interpretation of the Canada Labour Code Part II.


  • Conducting and/or supporting EHS investigations, inspections, risk assessments, other than those that are fully covered by the Aeronautics Act, Canada Shipping Act, Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act, motor vehicle accidents that occur on a public highway, and the Criminal Code.
  • Providing support and technical expertise on EHS for all SkyAlyne sites during any emergency situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of business administration, engineering, science, commerce, management, or a comparable level of experience or education in the areas of quality, environment, and health & safety, which directly relate to the duties and responsibilities of this role.
  • Specific post-secondary training in quality, environmental, and/or health and safety would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in quality, environmental, and/or health and safety functions within the Government of Canada or aviation organizations.
  • Good knowledge of ISO compliance standards, in particular ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, knowledge of ISO 50001 would be an asset.
  • Good knowledge of federal and provincial legislation concerning the environment, and health and safety.
  • Possess, at least, one of:
  • Certified Quality Auditor.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, influence, and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with strong auditing and investigation reporting skills.
  • Strong typing and computer skills including database, spreadsheets and word processing software packages.
  • Sound interpersonal, decision-making, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the abilities to multi-task, work independently, and prioritize.
  • Be able to hold a Government of Canada Security Clearance (Secret level) and Controlled Goods Clearance.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

  • Fluency in French would be an asset.
