The Director of Finance and Budget is responsible for leading the financial strategy for the School of Professional Advancement (SoPA). This includes developing the overall strategy, preparation, analysis, development and implementation of financial objectives. Under the Chief Business Officer and supporting the Dean, the Director leads and supports the planning and oversight of all financial needs and initiatives for the school. This position uses their analysis of historical trends, marketing and enrollment data, complex performance indicators, bench-mark data, and projection methodologies to provide their recommendations on the fiscal decisions of SoPA.

The Director leads a team of one staff member on the Finance Team and is actively involved in day-to-day transactional work. The Director regularly provides an advanced level of financial analysis and projections for all aspects of the budget, including tuition and program revenue, and salary costs. This position provides support for planning new initiatives, new programs and special projects, including managing, and tracking grants and accounts for the school.
Ability to understand complex data sets and analyze and communicate these data to a variety of audiences in an understandable and compelling way.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, practices and procedures.
High level of proficiency with spreadsheet and database software, as well as Windows environment and all components of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
Ability to learn and use financial reporting tools, including SQL queries.
Highly organized; ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work assignments.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Great interpersonal skills: ability to interact professionally, courteously, and effectively with internal and external contacts. Able to coordinate and work well as part of a diverse team
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
5 years of finance, budgeting or accounting experience.
Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
Experience managing accounts and budgets in an academic environment.
Experience with tuition-driven revenue units.
Experience with managing financial processes for a department.
Experience with Tulane systems, including TAMs, Cognos, Concur, e-Procurement, and Anaplan.
