The Automation Staff Engineer III provides design efforts from inception through production in both new and existing designs and projects. The ideal candidate will perform engineering design activities and calculations for projects. Must have high regard for detail, quality, and productivity. Must be able to lead and direct other automation engineers and work as part of a multidiscipline design team. They will work with lead engineers and design staff to solve engineering challenges associated with automation and controls design of the projects.

Essential Job Functions
- Perform automation & controls design evaluations and work to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints
- Review policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance
- Provide technical design and troubleshooting support
- Prioritize and accomplish project goals
- Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of each job
- Use computer assisted design/drafting software to develop control enclosure designs
- Prepare preliminary design proposal(s), engineering design, and supporting documentation
- Perform PLC, HMI, and simulator programming that will meet all project acceptance criteria
- Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required
- Refine and complete designs after design review meetings
- Interact and coordinate with designers to develop and complete designs
- Interact with clients and vendors
- Take initiative to identify and correct potential design flaws and identify potential risks or engineering design impacts for the project
- Participate in and lead bid walk-down meetings
- Provide on-site construction and commissioning support
- Interact with vendors to specify and/or troubleshoot equipment
Competencies
- Must demonstrate leadership and organization ability
- Must be skilled at written and verbal communications in English
- Able to utilize AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical (preferred), MS Office, & MS Project
- Proficient in various PLC and HMI software packages; experience with Rockwell and GE PLC and HMI programming software packages are preferred
- Must be action oriented, with ethical values and have strong sense of community and teamwork
- Demonstrate initiative and assertiveness and ability to work well under stress and time pressures
- Successful in planning and executing in a self-directed, fast paced professional environment
- Managing time and resources to produce quality results to the satisfaction of clients

Required Experience and/or Education
- BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- 5+ years of experience in automation & controls design
- Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- B&R Automation Studio Experience Preferred
