Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is key leadership responsible for overseeing and directing the nursing services at BJHCHS. The DON will ensure high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves managing the nursing and medical assistants, developing policies and procedures, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes. The DON plays a critical role in maintaining the center's commitment to serving the underserved populations and ensuring access to comprehensive healthcare services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight Oversee clinical care and ensure that nursing practices comply with regulatory standards, including those set by HRSA and other relevant bodies. Implement evidence-based practices and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate with service line chiefs to coordinate patient care and improve health outcomes. Collaborate with service line chiefs to ensure adherence to PCMH principles, including team-based care, care coordination, and patient engagement.

Oversight of infection control, adverse events, near misses, needle sticks, medication administration, and other clinical protocols. Quality Improvement & Compliance Lead the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives related to nursing care in order to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including HRSA requirements, PCMH, and OSHA guidelines. Participate in internal and external audits and develop corrective action plans as necessary. Monitor key metrics of care gaps related to patient care and nursing services, and report findings to the executive team and board of directors. Assist in PCMH recertification as needed. Patient & Community Engagement Foster a patient-centered care environment, ensuring that services are culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of the community. Engage with patients and families to address concerns, improve satisfaction, and enhance the patient experience. Participate in community outreach programs to promote the health center's services and improve public health outcomes. Collaboration & Communication: Serve as a liaison between nursing staff and other departments, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Work closely with the executive team and service line chiefs to align nursing services with the health center's strategic goals. Represent the nursing department in meetings, on committees, and in external partnerships (USCB, TCL, etc.).
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction to the nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies and procedures in alignment with federal and state regulations. Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of nursing and medical assistant staff. Round on staff at each site/specialty regularly to observe nursing operations and ensure that provider, nursing, and patient's needs are met. Conduct performance evaluations and implement strategies to enhance staff performance and satisfaction. Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained to meet patient care needs. Supervise Nurse Manager and supervisors.

Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred. Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Carolina required. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in an FQHC or community health setting. Skills: o Strong leadership and management abilities. o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. o In-depth knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations, particularly those pertaining to FQHCs. o Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. o Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Experience with eCW helpful.
