POSITION TITLE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL FOR IVY DRIVE SCHOOL
DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION- IVY DRIVE SCHOOL
REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS OR DESIGNEE

SUMMARY:

Provides instructional leadership to staff including curriculum planning, review and implementation and professional development. Responsible for day-to-day building administration as well as the safety and welfare of students, staff and activities. Ensures a safe, culturally responsive and highly effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary and enforces board and school policy.

  • Knowledge of financial management and ability to manage school operations and resources to promote each student's academic success and well-being


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
  • Manages building staff.
  • Assigns teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
  • Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff.
  • Coordinates in-service training for staff.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.
  • Participates in district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
  • Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board and the State and Federal Government.
  • Prepares the school budget.
  • Establishes priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with available funds.
  • Works with Central Office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school.
  • Works with the Central Office Staff on system-wide initiatives and problems.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiates programs to meet the specific needs of the school.
  • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes.
  • Shall perform other functions as required by the Superintendent of Schools, or designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's Degree and/or Sixth Year Certificate.
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Intermediate Administrative Certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications. Ability to use computer for E-mail, word processing, accounting, databases and presentations.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in verbal communication. Ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely in written format. Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Educator Standards.
