Position Summary
The EHS Manager will be responsible for leadership and execution of EHS responsibilities including development of safe work practices, providing EHS leadership in incident reviews and root cause analysis, active involvement in case management during incident response, serving as an expert resource to all levels of the organization in application of EHS best practices, and process improvement efforts at the Corporate or Regional level. This position will actively lead and support company initiatives and have the ability to prioritize competing Regional or Corporate responsibilities. The position will be responsible for supervising and developing a staff of employees and supervisors and overseeing day to day processes and evaluating team's work within multiple disciplines. This position understands the purpose and cross functional impact of processes and has a command of EHS principles and procedures. In addition to management responsibilities, this position may also encompass technical responsibilities of a senior level EHS Specialist.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Actively lead, coordinate, and prioritize environmental, health and safety management systems at a Regional or Corporate level to assure compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations and with internal expectations and goals. Ensure company meets all compliance obligations.
Lead in the development, implementation and administration of contractor safety management program and review contractor's EHS performance to ensure work is performed in line with our company's EHS expectations.
Work closely with engineering and operations managers and Operations Excellence teams to ensure compliance with State, Federal and local regulations and internal policies, procedures and practices in our operated assets.
Prepare and deliver meaningful EHS information, performance metrics, analysis and reports at a Regional or Corporate level. Review data analysis and advise on continuous improvement in EHS programs. Review internal and regulatory EHS reports as necessary.
Oversee KPA incident reporting system for accuracy including both safety related and spill incidents.
Identify, recommend and implement best practices and improvements to EHS processes including EHS SWP reviews and updates at the Regional and Corporate level.
Support new candidate job interviews especially petro-tech leaders, field managers, and field supervisors evaluating candidate's fit into SM's safety culture
Lead injury and illness case management efforts during incident occurrence. Provide coaching during incident investigation and support in generation of recommended corrective actions.
Conduct EHS prescreen of potential new vendors/contractors to ensure EHS performance aligns with SM's expectations .
Supervise and provide performance management for staff. Complete Mid-year and Year end Performance reviews.
General Knowledge and Skills
Stay appraised of new OSHA, TRRC, EPA, and other laws and regulations and their impact on our oil and gas operations. Guide efforts at the Regional or Corporate level to implement programs to ensure compliance with new laws and regulations.
Demonstrate innovation and initiative and drives for results. Advanced in applying EHS acumen across the business. Proven commitment to leading continuous improvement and development of individual and team EHS knowledge and skills. Maintain confidentiality, exercise judgment and professional discretion when communicating with all constituencies (internal and external). Demonstrate a positive attitude and influence individual and team moral. Ability to contribute and influence business decisions in an independent or collaborative environment. Understanding of risk management.
Computer/Software Applications
Proficient computer literacy. Is an expert in the application of common business tools (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Apply conceptual knowledge to EHS and supporting applications. Advanced ability to lead adoption of new and changing systems and applications.
Education
B.S. degree in Environment, Health, and Safety field, chemistry, engineering or related science is required or equivalent work experience and training which included positions of safety leadership.
Professional Safety and/or Environmental Certification is preferred. Examples include BCSP certifications such as the OHST, CHST, ASP, or CSP designations
Typical Experience
Minimum of 10 years of oil and gas experience including 7 years of environmental/safety experience. Minimum 3 years Management experience preferred.
