Reporting to the HR Director, the Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement and manage organizational Health and Safety programs in all Canadian facilities in accordance with local, provincial and/or federal regulations, while fostering a positive and safe work environment.

Reporting to the HR Director, the Health and Safety Manager will develop, implement and manage organizational Health and Safety programs in all Canadian facilities in accordance with local, provincial and/or federal regulations, while fostering a positive and safe work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement and maintain Health and Safety procedures, manuals and policies.
- Ensure compliance with all local, provincial and/or federal Health and Safety rules and regulations. Conduct regular regulation reviews for adherence and implementation.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazardous conditions and implement precautionary solutions.
- Recommend corrective action for the elimination of unsafe conditions.
- Provide advice to front line managers regarding the application of provincial Health and Safety regulations.
- Ensure that incident investigations are conducted for all lost time injuries, near misses and medicals, and that appropriate action is taken to prevent re-occurrences.
- Manage all provincial WorkSafeBC and WCB Alberta claims.
- Coordinate return to work programs in consultation with Operations and HR management.
- Maintain contact with WorksafeBC and WCB Alberta representatives as it applies to site visits and claims management.
- Conduct/lead safety orientations for all new employees. Train others to support further safety orientation training, as required.
- Provide training to advance safety awareness.
- Organize and manage Safety Committee meetings.
- Identify safety material for managers to present at their monthly safety crew talks.
- Manage workplace programs including respiratory and hearing protection, personal protective equipment, confined space entry, lock-out, WHMIS, workplace inspections, and other Health and Safety programs.
- Coordinate the fire safety plan, drills, and evacuation planning and training.
- Advise Operations Trainers on technical matters related to safety training.
- Conduct monthly safety audits by department.
- Provide daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly safety reports and statistics.
- Perform miscellaneous Health and Safety duties as required, including regulatory inspections, contractor safety, and awards.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related filed of study.
- Safety designation is considered an asset (CRSP or CHSC).
- Safe Start training and COR certification are considered an asset.
- 3-5 years of Health & Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Sound working knowledge of WorkSafeBC and WCB Alberta Health and Safety regulations, emergency response, WHMIS and hazardous material handling, transportation of dangerous goods and industrial waste management.
- Experience in developing and conducting safety education and training programs.
- Claims management experience.
- Ability to respond quickly to sensitive issues where a high level of technical, systematic or emergency thought processes is required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and planning skills.
- Ability to function with high motivation, self-direction and limited supervision.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and issues with short deadlines.
- High degree of personal and professional ethics.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
- This position may require some travel, domestic and international.
