GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director of College Advancement, the Advancement Director is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding constituents to generate major gifts in support of the mission and development strategy of Labour College of Healthcare.

Labour's case for support is a compelling one. We serve low-income, multicultural adult students pursuing careers in nursing and healthcare. At 68% BIPOC and over 40% multilingual, Labour graduates are diversifying the Massachusetts nursing workforce on a scale unmatched in New England. This profoundly affects health equity and racism in healthcare delivery while alleviating the local nursing and healthcare shortage.

Essential Job Functions
- Develops and oversees development plan implementation in consultation with leadership and advancement teams.
- Manage a portfolio of donors and prospective major donors by leading in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; maintain current documentation of activity.
- Develops and strengthens relationships with individuals, corporations, government agencies, and foundations.
- Delegates and oversees the creation of donor-related materials, including print and electronic appeals, stewardship communication, and meeting packets.
- Conducts and records the outcome of a measurable number of face-to-face visits with donor prospects to solicit major and planned gifts
- Prepares or delegates preparation of written and verbal proposals, concept and information materials endowment and planned giving agreements, and other materials needed to secure major gifts in collaboration with colleagues as appropriate.
- Represent the organization publicly to strategically grow a community of stakeholders, working with other staff to coordinate strategic meetings and small-scale events as needed.
- Creates opportunities to increase visibility through strategic partnerships, events, and special initiatives as schedule and budget permit.
- Conduct significant prospective donor research and develop strategies to expand the college's pool of major donors and prospects
- Identify, cultivate, and play a lead role in soliciting and closing major gifts of ~$5,000 and up, primarily from individuals (this amount may increase over time as we execute our development strategy)
- Identify new prospective leads with giving capacity who align with broader social justice issues addressed in the campaign and/or the college's mission
- Conduct wealth screening of the alumni database and develop a strategy to convert alumni with capacity into major donors
- Work closely with the Grants & Foundations Manager, when appropriate, to cultivate relationships that may lead to corporate/foundation gifts
- Develop and present proposals to prospects/donors for funding
- Create materials and engage with campus leaders for donor stewardship
- Engage in networking activities or other opportunities to generate potential prospects for cultivation
- Plan and implement experiences (tours, dinners, meetings, etc.) for major gift donors
- Cultivate and expand planned giving and estate giving opportunities with new and existing donors and integrate planned gift objectives into individual donor requests
- Engage in complex financial discussions with donors and their representatives (appropriate finance officers will also support you in this effort)
- Track and report relationship management activity in Raiser's Edge database
- Ability to travel as necessary, available for nights and weekends

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required
- 3-5 years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, healthcare, or a similar field, with a demonstrated record of success in soliciting impactful gifts
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge or similar development database (RE training will be provided)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of prospect research software and principles.
- General knowledge of nonprofit tax law and sound financial practice
- Valid Massachusetts license and access to a vehicle required
- Availability for evening and weekend events
- Ability to travel as necessary (donor pool is largely focused in Greater Boston; however, gifts from alumni residing in Florida have gradually increased. Travel beyond Greater Boston and the Cape will be minimal.)
