Position Highlights
The Director of Instructional Technologies provides supervision and strategy for the instructional technologies team at the University Center for Assessment, Teaching, and Technology (UCATT). This team provides pedagogical and technical support for the learning management system and a portfolio of enterprise instructional technologies.

The director collaborates with UCATT, University Information Technology Services, the Disability Resource Center, and other campus units on instructional technology implementation, best practices, and policies related to the LMS and instructional technologies. In addition, the director is responsible for coordinating with central IT on all projects and operational aspects of shared technologies and services.

This position offers a unique opportunity to significantly influence the implementation of instructional technology at the university, guiding initiatives that support both educators and students in leveraging cutting-edge tools for learning and academic success.
This position requires the employee to work on campus at least three days a week.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Supervision (70%)
  • Lead a team of instructional-technology professionals, overseeing the learning management system (D2L Brightspace) and other enterprise instructional technologies, with a focus on pedagogical effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with colleges and units, managing LMS access roles and levels.
  • Evaluate instructional technology initiatives and usage, making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement informed by student learning.
  • Develop policies and best practices for implementing and maintaining instructional technologies.
  • Manage complex projects and initiatives related to instructional technology.
  • Collaborate with UCATT leadership to provide comprehensive services to instructors, students, and staff across the university.
  • Create operational plans to support effective integration of technology into instructional practices.

Communication and Collaboration (10%)
  • Develop and communicate outreach and support strategies to stakeholders across campus.
  • Provide instructional technology and pedagogical expertise in campus-wide discussions on teaching and learning with technologies.
  • Partner with college administrators and other leaders to execute organizational mission and strategy.
  • Collaborate with University Information Technology Services to achieve shared goals.

Support and Training (10%)
  • Lead outreach initiatives with academic units to promote effective use of instructional technology in teaching and learning.
  • Guide the instructional technology team to create and coordinate training and professional development opportunities for instructors, staff, and students on instructional technology tools and resources.
  • Provide consultations to instructors on integrating technology into their teaching practices as needed.

Innovation and Exploration (10%)
  • Oversee explorations of developing instructional technologies through pilot projects and exploratory research.
  • Develop and implement strategies for technology integration in teaching and curriculum, life-cycle management of instructional technologies, and training and implementation for new technologies.
  • Direct assessment efforts around new technologies to inform adoption and support decisions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert knowledge of instructional technologies, design principles, and educational trends in higher education.
  • Proficiency in accessibility standards, universal design, and inclusive technologies.
  • Advanced understanding of learning management systems and instructional technologies supported by UCATT.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent project management abilities to handle multiple priorities and manage change in a complex academic environment.
  • Leadership and strategic planning skills to guide instructional technology initiatives and manage diverse teams.
  • Ability to assess and implement technical solutions with a focus on pedagogical outcomes and teaching effectiveness.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advancedlearning attained through professional level experience required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in instructional technology, higher education, or related field.
  • Experience as an instructor or assisting instructors in achieving their instructional goals using technology at any level (PK-20).
  • Leadership experience in instructional support in higher education.
  • 3 years of experience in providing enterprise services.
  • Experience developing strategic plans and roadmaps for the adoption and optimization of educational technologies.
  • Expertise in implementing and supporting learning management systems or similar enterprise platforms.
  • Experience in vendor management, including communication, contract negotiation, and partnership development.
