Aecon is seeking a Superintendent to provide technical knowledge and experience to the project team and subcontractors to ensure compliance with all design drawings, engineering standards, codes and specifications.

What you will do here:

  • Promote, lead and implement a safety first culture for all employees, contractors and consultants
  • Promote safety in all activities and participate in the development of safe work plans, hazard assessments, risk assessments and mentoring with crew
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections
  • Monitor and report on project, quality control, resource requirements and client or employee relations to the General Superintendent and/or Construction Manager (CM)
  • Supervise the site and ensure that the foreman follows all project assignments, policies and procedures
  • Improve the quality, efficiency and productivity of work teams
  • Direct the foreman on productivity issues and monitor work performance, working with teams to overcome challenges
  • Follow project plans and budgets while ensuring that the foreman and crews meet production targets
  • Understand the scope and sequence of work, assist the foreman in planning and prioritizing work, efficiently redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks, and minimize downtime on job sites
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan
  • Responsible for supervising multiple teams and subcontractors
  • Develop construction work methods. Plan material, equipment and work requirements for civil operations
  • Review daily work schedule and productions with field engineers and General Superintendent/CM and update monthly schedule
  • Review and understand project plans and specifications to support work implementation activities
  • Local/DOT/MTO/municipal project experience preferred
  • Strong adherence and promotion of OSHA and project specific safety policies
  • Document daily field activities and provide technical information to identify and resolve design issues
  • Determine team structure for optimal project performance
  • Present the production work plan to the teams
  • Work with quality personnel to coordinate appropriate inspections and testing for assigned work scopes
  • Responsible for ordering and coordinating equipment and materials to complete production on budget and on schedule
  • Other duties as assigned

What you bring to the team:

  • Minimum 10 years in a management position in the construction sector: civil, roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.
  • Hardworking person with attention to detail
  • Construction site experience required
  • Education including an engineering degree or an equivalent combination of technical training or related experience
  • Able to use drawing software to develop plans for means and methods of construction
  • Good understanding of how to read technical drawings, documents and site plans
  • Experience and understanding of engineering tools and equipment, automated systems and remote tooling systems
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with a large team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to meet project schedule, which may include weekends or night shifts.
  • Flexibility to work both in the field and in the office
