Introduction

The Office of the Director of State Courts is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Policy Initiatives Advisor & Legislative Liaison. If you have experience with legislative analysis and outreach, we encourage you to apply. Under the direction of the Director of State Courts, this position is responsible for assisting the Director of State Courts, the judiciary, and senior court system managers in the preparation, analysis, and implementation of legislative and other major policy issues affecting Wisconsin Court System (WCS) programs. This includes monitoring all legislative proposals and coordinating responses to legislation and legislators.

The position works with court system staff to gain a general understanding of the significant issues and to determine the most appropriate course of action for the judicial branch. The Policy Initiatives Advisor & Legislative Liaison also staffs the Legislative Committee. The position also works to promote and implement initiatives that impact the judicial proceedings of the circuit court.

Position Summary

LOCATION: Madison, Wisconsin.

SALARY: $99,666 - $120,583 annually with a State of Wisconsin benefits package. Salary will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.

Job Details

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Coordinate legislative and policy efforts impacting the WCS, including coordinating responses and resolutions of problems involving policy and/or program operations as it relates to pending or adopted legislation, and performing outreach to members of the legislature and Executive Branch and stakeholders on pending legislation on behalf of the WCS. 2) Assist with special projects and policy initiatives and other assignments of the Director of State Courts. 3) Coordinates responses and resolutions of problems involving policy and/or program operations as it relates to pending or adopted legislation to stakeholders as well as communications efforts with the Public Information Officer to external media. 4) Serve as Judicial Conference staff for the Legislative committee.

Qualifications

REQUIRED: 1) Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics or related field or equivalent experience in policy and legislative analysis. 2) Excellent knowledge of the Wisconsin legislative and budget development process. 3.) Excellent knowledge of the legislative policy issues relating to the Wisconsin criminal justice system. 4.) Good knowledge of communication strategies and techniques. 5.) Skill in communications and analytical writing and in providing information to a diverse audience of stakeholders. 6) Experience leading legislative efforts and outreach to legislative stakeholders on behalf of a government agency as it relates to pending or adopted criminal justice or public safety legislation. 7) Experience leading and coordinating strategic planning of multi-agency legislative efforts relating to criminal justice-related or public safety issues, preferably within the state of Wisconsin.
