Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Civil Structural Designer III to join our Engineering office located in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a great opportunity to get involved with exciting and challenging projects with long lasting customers.
Responsibilities
This position involves the application of general design practices on steel and concrete structures utilizing CADD for creation of models and design drawings. The candidate will have the ability to independently select and adapt standard techniques, procedures and criteria in design and prepare preliminary designs for Engineer's approval. Performs work on major projects or several projects of moderate scope with complex features. Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approaches. Review work for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. Position skills are heavily focused on civil structural design but have a working technical knowledge of other discipline design requirements. Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, and installation supervision.

Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.

- Develop detailed and accurate structural 3D models.
- Check and analyze drawings prepared within the team for dimensional accuracy, spelling, CADD and drafting standards, neatness, completeness, along with applicable codes, project specifications, and established discipline standards before being released to the approving engineers.
- Check vendor shop drawings and construction drawings.
- May have the opportunity to perform as a lead designer of a project.
- Develop detailed design drawings (structural steel and concrete) in a 2D and 3D environment.
- Check and analyze models prepared within the team for accuracy, completeness, and interferences.
- Use and implement manufacture's design documentation in the design process.
- Communicate with the project discipline engineers and designers to ensure collaboration in the design effort.
- Ensure the company quality assurance manual and standard operating procedures are followed in completion of assigned tasks.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Drafting/Design/Engineering Technology or equivalent job-related experience (2 years job related experience equivalent to 1 year college).
- Must have 10+ years' experience in engineering drafting and design practices, in addition to educational requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize various CADD software applications according to project requirements.
- Experience with Autocad or Microstation and Autodesk or Bentley Structural packages, AVEVA E3D or PDMS software is preferred.
- Knowledge of Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu, and the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams).
- Knowledge of ACI, AISC, OSHA and IBC Codes.
- Knowledge and understanding of engineering/design & construction. Experience with AWP (Advanced Work Packaging) a plus
- Ability to make good judgments and quick decisions
- Strong language skills (written and oral)
- Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to thrive in a team working environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate thorough technical knowledge and design practices of civil/structural drawings.
- Overtime work may be required.
- Occasional periods of field/office work entailing travel.
- May be required to work in an industrial plant environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Certificate in Design/Drafting.
