Job Description

Under direction of the Senior Vice President Chief Nursing Executive or appropriate designee, with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the nursing service and nursing education programs of a hospital, hospital center or diagnostic and treatment center; performs related tasks.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
Develops, establishes and implements the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of the Nursing Department.
Lead the roll-out and ongoing monitoring of NYC H+H's Magnet and Professional Development Committee.
Maintains a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients.
Directs the development and implementation of nursing excellence education programs for nursing personnel.
Works creatively in initiating and participating in studies and evidence based practice projects. Utilizes findings to improve patient care and administrative services.
Lead and manage the organization's Magnet Recognition program, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies to achieve and sustain Magnet status.
Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and the ANCC throughout the Magnet application and re-designation process
Develop and implement strategic plans for Magnet preparation, including timelines, goals, and action plans.
Monitor progress towards Magnet goals and adjust strategies as needed.
Oversee the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and documentation required for Magnet designation.
Coordinate the collection and analysis of data related to nursing practice, patient outcomes, and staff satisfaction to support Magnet documentation and reporting
Conducts working committees with all levels of nursing personnel.
Identifying changes that should be made in practice and service using an evidence-based approach and facilitating the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to the change.
Acting as a formal and informal consultant, assisting with the integration of new learning into practice and service by assisting nurses in identifying problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources and selecting educational options.
Designing, creating and applying evidence based practice by supporting the integration of evidence based practice into practice and helping to develop staff members' knowledge and skills in the evidence based practice process, as well as fostering the use of systematic evaluative research data with regard to clinical, educational and managerial development.
Modeling behaviors that reflect standards of professional organizations.
Providing ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities in achieving outcomes that promote the delivery of cost-effective high-quality healthcare.
Creates and implements programs at work that connect employees with business goals.
Participates in progressive improvement/quality improvements programs to improve the delivery of care and services modifies training and education programs in response to _outcomes.
Demonstrates effective leadership skills including: critical thinking, problem solving, goal _setting, decision making, delegation, strategic planning, project management, coaching and mentoring.
Provides educational opportunities that benefit staff at all stages of their career development.
Supports staff development with educational activities including: remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, regulatory requirements, product or system roll outs.
Collaborating with others in the practice of professional development at the institutional, local, regional and state levels.
Promotes curriculum strands in all programs of a culture of safety, patient and family centered care as well as HCAHPS and core measures.
Identifies specific patient care issues and new service lines that effect program planning and development.
Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care delivery.
Promotes cultural competency.
Conducts formal annual needs analysis to determine new strategic programmatic planning.
Oversee the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and documentation required for Magnet designation.
Coordinate the collection and analysis of data related to nursing practice, patient outcomes, and staff satisfaction to support Magnet documentation and reporting.

Education and Training:
Provide education and training to nursing staff and other stakeholders on Magnet standards, best practices, and evidence-based practices.
Facilitate workshops, seminars, and other educational activities to promote understanding and compliance with Magnet requirements.

Quality Improvement and Evidence-Based Practice:
Promote and support the integration of evidence-based practices and quality improvement initiatives in nursing care.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing practices and quality improvement projects, ensuring alignment with Magnet standards.

Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with nursing leaders, interdisciplinary teams, and other departments to support Magnet initiatives and foster a culture of excellence in patient care.
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff to promote engagement and ensure a shared commitment to Magnet goals.

Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for Magnet applications, including narrative descriptions, evidence, and data.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of documentation and reports to the ANCC.

Advocacy and Support:
Advocate for nursing excellence and the Magnet program within the organization and the broader healthcare community.
Support nursing staff in achieving professional development and career advancement aligned with Magnet standards.

Compliance and Accreditation:
Ensure ongoing compliance with Magnet standards and any other relevant regulatory or accreditation requirements.
Conduct internal assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to Magnet criteria.

Resource Management:
Manage the budget and resources allocated for Magnet-related activities and initiatives.
Ensure efficient use of resources to support the achievement and maintenance of Magnet status.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
