POSITION SUMMARYThe Financial Specialist is responsible for the preparation and analysis of financial data and audit information. The role coordinates the budget process and maintains key financial information to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The incumbent identifies trends, modifies processes and ensures compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations and systems of internal control.
The incumbent supports internal clients working with operational business partners on setting budgets, quarterly forecasting, managing to budget, expenses & cost allocations, and financial reporting - focused on assisting them in building financial acumen and better managing their business units.

The incumbent supports internal clients working with operational business partners on setting budgets, quarterly forecasting, managing to budget, expenses & cost allocations, and financial reporting - focused on assisting them in building financial acumen and better managing their business units.
KEY DUTIES
- Monitors monthly actual expenditures and revenues and investigates significant variances through discussions with internal business partners for the preparation of variance reporting.
- Provide financial analysis relating to month-end & yearly statistical reporting.
- Prepare monthly/annual financial statements and Board packages and financial presentations.
- Engage internal business unit leaders in the preparation of annual and long-term budgets.
- Facilitate training and re-education for business unit leaders on preparing annual budgets, quarterly forecasting, allocation of spend and reporting out on budget status.
- Provide assistance to business leaders outside of the regular financial reporting schedule.
- Prepare on a quarterly basis, new residential and commercial Economic Evaluations for Contributed Capital projects.
- Assist with the reconciliation of Month End Closing Statistics.
- Perform payroll duties as necessary and monitor vacation and sick time banks offering assistance to business partners as needed.
- Participate and represent the Company at industry forums, committees and/or conferences.
- Attend Board meetings when requested.
- Provide backup when needed, in the day-to-day activities of the Accounting Department including cross training of the Financial Systems (G/L, Accounts Payable, Inventory, Purchasing, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Work Orders).
- Research best practice and monitor OEB, IMO and EDA websites for updates and potential impact on accounting environment; ensure compliance with financial changes.

KNOWLEDGE
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Intermediate knowledge and a working understanding of the specialized regulatory accounting framework
- Intermediate knowledge of Harris/Cayenta and/or other related software
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in business or a related discipline
- Professional Accounting Designation, CPA (CGA, CMA, CA)
- Experience in the electricity sector an asset
- Minimum 5-7 years in an accounting/financial analysis role
