The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS)Office of the Secretary (OOS)has an exciting new position for a Strategic Advisor for EDAI Research & Data to join our team!This position reports to the DSHS Director of Equity, Access, and Belonging and acts as a special advisor to the DSHS Office of Equity, Diversity, Access, and Inclusion (OEDAI) Directors team as well as other DSHS leaders. This plays a key role in serving needs related to the use of data, analysis, and interpretation of existing data, as well as understanding DSHS-wide impacts related to equity, diversity, access, and belonging (EDAI-B) initiatives. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in ethical decolonized data practices, evaluation and interpretation of complex data, and data visualization to meet the needs of multiple audiences.

Some of What Youll Do

  • Develop platforms, processes, and tools (to include power BI or Tableau data dashboards, workflow outcome reporting tools, written reports and executive briefs, or visual presentations) that integrate data into the department-wide approach to monitoring and communicating the impact of EDAI-related plans, initiatives, and actions.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and training as needed for DSHS colleagues in key roles on best practices for the use of data and data visualization tools. Support employees in key roles related to EDAI-B,executive order 22-02(Download PDF reader), belonging, disability justice, and language justice in accessing high-quality relevant data and interpretation of data to understand the current state, progression of initiatives and strategic goals, and continuous improvement needs.
  • Evaluate research related to EDAI-B with a focus on analysis of complex data and visual presentation of complex statistical data for a variety of audiences.
  • Provide guidance, advisement, and ad hoc training for individuals in key roles in interpreting data and data visualization best practices.
  • Work effectively across a highly collaborative cross-functional team to meet the overall needs of agency EDAI-BandPEARstrategic plans and goals.
  • Develop, nurture, and maintain a close working partnership between the Office of Equity, Diversity, Access, and Inclusion and the DSHS Research and Data Analysis Office.
  • Provide formal and informal leadership for workgroups, Communities of Practice (CoPs), and other groups committed to evolving the use of data, metrics, and data visualization tools to understand the impacts of equity, diversity, access, and belonging initiatives and plans of action.

We're Looking for Someone Who Has the Following:

  • A masters degree in sociology, anthropology, public health, data analytics, business analytics, or other field with applied social sciences research or data analytics experienceANDfour years of experience analyzing and interpreting data, creating data visualization dashboards, reports, and presentations.

  • A bachelors degree in sociology, anthropology, public health, data analytics, business analytics, or other field with applied research and data analytics experienceANDfour years of experience analyzing and interpreting data, creating data visualization dashboards, reports, and presentationsANDTwo years of experience working in public human services policy, program design, or service delivery.
  • Education Substitution: Additional experience will be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, access, and inclusion (EDAI) and well as belonging and social justice principles, practices, and theories that include understanding of the historical context underlying current challenges facing communities of color, people with disabilities, immigrant communities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) communities, as well as low-and moderate-income families.
  • Understanding of the public human services context. Knowledge of concerns of communities served by DSHS as well as general context and history of public human services and perspectives of individuals working across a broad spectrum of roles in public human services.
  • Technical knowledge of industry-standard software for data analytics, data visualization and storytelling, statistical computing, and graphing. Experience working with databases to prepare data for analysis and visualization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Technical Statistical Analysis System skills as required to connect complex and varied data sources, and perform advanced analytics, and statistical modeling.
  • Advanced skills in information design and data storytelling as well as the use of data visualization tools (pivot tables, graphs, charts, infographics, and conditional data table formatting).
  • Ability to develop data dashboards (using Power BI or similar tools) that support EDAI data-informed business decision-making.
  • Advanced level of professional communication skills, including written and verbal presentation, preparing professional reports and presentations delivered by others, and other methods of synthesizing and communicating complex information.
  • Ability to flexibly apply teaching, training, coaching, consultation, and mentoring skills as required to develop agency employee knowledge required to competently engage with EDAI data and research techniques for strategic planning, policy and program development, and decision-making.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with community members, co-workers, and others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Interacts with colleagues, customers, stakeholders, and partners in a manner that reflects the agency's values and principles of proactive equity, anti-racism, disability and language justice, and belonging.
  • Strong commitment to and comfort with curiosity, improvisation, and continuous improvement. Ability to exercise a high level of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, self-care, and judgment during challenging or ambiguous situations.
