Job Summary
The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by UCSF Health as well as its providers and payers. This critical support position provides analytical expertise in the administrative functions of the Outpatient Pharmacy, including daily operations, planning, and continuous improvement. The position represents Department of Pharmaceutical Services in interactions with UC staff, external partners, and vendors.
The Outpatient Pharmacy Business Analyst collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure UCSF receives timely and accurate claim payments and has an essential role in the claims audit process. Responsibilities include investigating unpaid or underpaid claims and resolving billing discrepancies, ensuring compliance with payor regulations, maintaining drug price accuracy for claim submissions, and providing necessary documentation for claims audits. The Analyst participates in the inventory audit process and is solely responsible for generating various reports and metrics used by the operations team. Other duties include but are not limited to recharge analysis and journal preparation, billing research and correction, and improvement projects.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Our Outpatient Pharmacies include Specialty Pharmacy, Outpatient Pharmacy at Parnassus, and Outpatient Pharmacy at Mission Bay.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in retail/specialty/outpatient pharmacy; OR a BA/BS in Business, Finance, Accounting or Economics AND 1-2 years of experience in retail/specialty/outpatient pharmacy
- Experience and demonstrated accomplishments in process improvement
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel (VLOOKUP function, IF functions, pivot tables, basic MACROs, etc.)
- Moderate knowledge of pharmacy billing, operational workflows, and inventory management
- Moderate understanding of accounting and finance principles
- Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Creative thinking skills and ability to generate new out-of-the-box ideas, attention to detail
- Ability to communicate clearly in all formats and apply a high degree of analytical, interpretive and evaluative skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to operate healthcare information systems and analytical software
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills to interact with all clients/customers throughout the Health System (internally and externally)
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to foster an effective working relationship with all levels of staff, vendors and other associates
