SUMMARY
Key leadership position in our Field Engineering department, responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing Project Engineers, Assistant Project Engineers, Field Engineers, and Surveyors in their support of dredging projects from inception to completion. Forms and develops an effective, focused, and motivated team of engineers and surveyors.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Foster the expansion and advancement of the dredging business through development of the Field Engineering team members, survey processes, equipment, and technology.
Leads team's vision, identifying key priorities, and ensuring alignment with operational objectives.
Develop a strong effective working relationship with Callan Marine's Dredging and Construction divisions.
Oversee department performance management process and development programs; encourage formal and informal learning events and experiences.
Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operating risks inherent in the business that could materially impact the company's reputation and/or operating results.
Remain current with the latest technology and industry practices and find practical applications.
Provide professional advice to department personnel, project teams, or individual contributors.
Communicate project progress, changes, and updates to clients in a clear and timely manner.
Assemble and lead project teams, including Field Engineering team members, surveyors, and support staff.
Consider project budgets, expenses, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effective project execution.
Procure necessary equipment, materials, and subcontractor services as needed.
Oversee the execution of survey projects to ensure data accuracy, adherence to surveying standards, and the production of high-quality deliverables.
Prepare and review survey reports, maps, and other project deliverables.
Ensure all surveying operations comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
Provide mentorship and general technical advice to other managers and field personnel.
Ensure that staff are following survey equipment maintenance and care procedures during mobilization, in the field, and during demobilization.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The employee must have:
Bachelor's degree in Coastal, Civil, and/or Ocean Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or related field.
PE license or equivalent highly desired.
Minimum of 12 years of engineering design experience related to marine dredging and marine surveying.
Minimum of 5 years of experience managing complex coastal and waterfront engineering projects, ranging from contract values of $10M+.
Ability to manage projects and progress ideas to execution in a complex environment.
Effective negotiation, presentation, and persuasion skills. Experienced in communicating ideas, winning approval, and reaching resolutions with a variety of audiences.
Strong analytical ability along with the capacity to interpret data and make recommendations.
Comfortable with change and ambiguity; adaptable, collaborative and a systems thinker
Proficiency in project management software and tools.
Working knowledge of hydrographic data acquisition systems and software including Multibeam Sonars, Singlebeam Sonars, Side Scan Sonars, and GNSS navigation systems. Knowledge of operation and deployment of geophysical equipment a plus.
Experience mobilizing vessels for geotechnical operations as well as trouble shooting capability on sediment sampling equipment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
In addition, the employee must also be capable of:
Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
