Job Description

Arizona State University is seeking an Assistant Director to lead the Web Services Team within the Research Technology Office (RTO), Knowledge Enterprise.

This position oversees the design, development, and ongoing support and maintenance of websites and intranet sites for Knowledge Enterprise. The Assistant Director supervises a team of developers and technicians and is responsible for aligning team efforts with organizational goals, ensuring quality management, and driving process improvements.

This role focuses on high-level supervision, coordination, and leadership across multiple projects and teams, managing resources and processes to ensure timely and efficient delivery of web-based services, infrastructure, and applications that support ASU's mission of innovation and excellence.

Flexible work options:

• Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
• Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
• Remote work is an arrangement where the employee spends less than 60% of their regular workweek at a regularly assigned ASU work location. Executive vice president-level approval is required.

Standard Working Environment:

• Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
• Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
• Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
• Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience implementing security standards and protocols in an academic research environment involving large-scale, multi-organizational collaborative projects on a national or international level.
• Experience implementing or validating security compliance with any of the following security standards; HIPAA, FERPA, NIST 800-171, NIST SP 800-53, NIST CSF or CMMC.

Essential Duties

• Supervise and mentor teams, developers, technicians, and student workers, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and fostering professional growth.
• Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of full-stack web development activities, including websites, applications, and API services, while ensuring best practices in security, scalability, and performance. Oversee managed hosting and dependencies for all technologies that support websites and applications.
• Lead and manage enterprise-level projects, providing strategic direction and coordinating with cross-functional teams to deliver digital solutions that support ASU's Knowledge Enterprise.
• Collaborate with stakeholders from Enterprise Technology, ASU Brand Team, Schools of Engineering, Learning Enterprise, and other ASU departments to serve on governing boards that manage web hosting, digital branding, accessibility, and compliance to ASU, state, and federal regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement efforts within the team, refining processes, quality management systems, and operational workflows across development activities.
• Provide guidance on security protocols, including inventory management, advanced security measures, and developmental operational improvements.
• Oversee the implementation of large-scale web and SharePoint projects, ensuring alignment with ASU's strategic objectives and the seamless execution of high-impact digital products.
• Mentor and guide direct reports through professional growth opportunities, ensuring robust team development.
• Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the team, encouraging knowledge sharing and the adoption of best practices in project management and digital technologies.
• Own and monitor support special projects and key websites for strategic initiatives across ASU.
