Description: K-12 Lead Literacy and Language Arts (ELA) Specialist. This position works across all five schools in Ellington. Interested candidates should have background and experience in providing direct literacy instruction, and have demonstrated experience collaborating with school and district staff to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student engagement. Anticipated start date is January-February 2025.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Coordinate and support the development and implementation of a sound and coherent K-12 reading/ELA curriculum
  • Support teachers as they integrate differentiated instructional practices
  • Use a variety of research based collaboration strategies and methods that enable teachers to implement curriculum and instructional practices
  • Promote reflection and a positive mindset
  • Lead collaborative analysis of student data to inform instruction, curriculum, and professional learning
  • Ensure the alignment of instruction to formative, summative and State assessments across all levels
  • Meet regularly with Asst. Supt., building principals, and building based literacy specialists to support academic curriculum expectations and improvement in instruction
  • Provide professional development and support for building based literacy specialists and classroom teachers
  • Collaborate with teachers and administration with the goal of increasing student engagement and achievement
  • Coordinate district K-6 literacy team and collaborate with secondary level teacher leaders to guide teaching and learning
  • Ability to multi-task and facilitate various detail oriented projects throughout the school year

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience required, preferably across levels, under certifications such 305, 015, 215, or 102.
  • Possess or be eligible for Connecticut certification as a Reading and Language Arts Consultant, Kindergarten through Grade 12 (097). Candidates with literacy curriculum and instruction experience and 092 certification will be considered.
  • Previous experience working as a literacy specialist (or equivalent) K-12 preferred.
  • Demonstrated teacher leadership.
