Position Summary

The Equine Technical Specialist will support commercial growth of Zinpro Equine sales by leveraging industry knowledge, management and care understanding, and nutritional expertise. The ideal candidate will provide technical training to the sales team and customers, ensuring all are well educated on Zinpro's value within the Equine space. In addition, this position will contribute to building our global equine research and market messaging strategy through collaboration with technical and research teams, and marketing. The Equine Technical Specialist will be responsible for working alongside account managers and independently to grow, develop, and implement sales and account strategies to achieve sales growth.

Essential Functions
  • Through team and independent efforts, grow sales with enhanced customer relationships and technical product expertise within the equine industry.
  • Retain and expand strong working relationships with large, highly complex, visible, strategic, or tactically important customers and key influencers.
  • Develop and execute annual sales strategies for assigned accounts based on strategic importance, understanding of market/industry trends, and firsthand customer information.
  • Partner with the North American and global sales teams to provide in-field technical support utilizing product expertise, and practical equine health and management knowledge to effectively position Zinpro products and resources with customers at the nutritionist and horse owner levels.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to conduct training, present the latest research and provide relevant materials to help sell into the equine space
  • Direct research strategy, collaborate with product development and sales teams to determine research priorities, partner on execution of controlled studies and customer validation tests, publish findings, and collaborate with marketing to identify messaging to take to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present technical product presentations to a broad range of audiences, from horse owners and feed company representatives to industry professionals and the academic community.
  • Maintain standing within the scientific community by attending scientific meetings and cultivating contacts and relationships with University and Research personnel in the USA and globally.
  • Remain abreast of the latest equine research findings and technologies being implemented in equine nutrition, exercise physiology and reproduction.

Qualifications

Minimum Required:
  • Doctorate degree (PhD, DVM) in equine science (nutrition, reproduction, exercise physiology)
  • 5+ years related experience and/or training in the equine feed industry
  • Experience designing, conducting and summarizing research studies for publication.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and scientific peers.
  • Business mindset with the ability to interact with individuals across multiple levels of an organization

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment consists of multiple different environments: standard office, long periods in a motor vehicle, farms, exposure to animals and animal products, manufacturing facilities, heat/cold conditions and/or at client/customer facilities.

Positions in this class typically require typing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Schedule Requirements

This position is expected to work within core business hours and requires participation in after-hours and weekend calls, customer/client events & meetings, and industry events.

Travel Requirements

This position requires an estimated 50-60% travel, which will likely vary week to week, and may be higher depending on business needs. Required travel is primarily within the US and will include occasional international travel.
