The Instrumentation & Control Systems group is a dynamic team in which engineering and design are combined to effectively support our clients. In addition to a solid education focusing on instrumentation and control systems design, a strong set of personal competencies is a prerequisite for success. Being a team player and having an ability to interact effectively with client organizations, others disciplines, vendors and contractors in our taskforce is essential.

For Vancouver project work, the control systems designer is responsible for the development of technical drawings, data sheets, and wiring details for projects in the mineral processing industry.

The designer works under the supervision of the lead designer or the discipline lead engineer.
The control systems designer will work in a multi-discipline project environment interfacing with other discipline engineers and team members, clients, and vendors.

Day to day responsibilities include:
Participate in model reviews using 3D review platform and create 3D models of moderate complexity
Apply project drawing standards to design drawings and 3D layout
Prepare 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings of moderate complexity
Incorporate health, safety, and environmental factors in design
Review drawings, and vendor equipment documentation of basic to moderate complexity within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution
Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations
Development of construction ready installation drawings and documents in accordance with the project design and client requirements including block diagrams; cable schedules; panel layouts; loop diagrams; wiring diagrams; instrument index and I/O documents; location drawings; installation details; layouts; sketches; MTOs; fibre connection drawings, 3D modeling etc
Provide input and review of contractors' scope of work
Practical knowledge of field installations
Works independently
Assures quality of work
Proactive reporting of status/constraints to the lead designer or lead engineer

Able to work in the office where the role is to be carried out (Note: a hybrid office/ Remote schedule may be possible for this position depending on the specific Project)

Basic Job Requirements
Diploma of technology in Instrumentation and Controls and or Electrical
Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in an EPC or EPCM environment
Mineral processing experience
Understanding of codes and governing regulations and industry practices
Understand and support other disciplines' tasks and deliverables
SmartPlant Instrumentation and SmartPlant 3D experience is preferred
Competent in English and possess good written and oral communication skills
Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Strong interpersonal skills
Instrumentation field experience is preferred
Be able to multi-task between several projects
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
