Description:
The Clinical Evaluator evaluates or examines potential patients to determine candidacy for admission to the clinical program. The evaluation process includes a carefully reviewed medical history of the injury event; systematic evaluation of the current status; determination of current major deficits; and recommendations for a future rehabilitation program and/or other appropriate recommendations, which are presented in a comprehensive Preliminary Evaluation Report. Projections of program duration and costs are reviewed with and then reported by the Admissions Coordinators.Also reviews medical records to assist the Admissions staff in making a decision regarding actions to be taken: (a) review medical records and make recommendations by telephone with the case manager, adjustor, family member, etc., (b) review medical records and generate a Preliminary Patient Care Audit Report (PPCAR) with recommendations based only on record review and without seeing patient in person, (3) provide consultation on outside TBI cases, (4) conduct file reviews with personnel at insurance company or case management offices.
Work is full time during the weekdays and requires some overtime. Work is performed at the clinic and other sites which may include hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, homes, and offices. Extensive traveling is necessary in the SFO and Northern California territory. The Clinical Evaluator position requires a high level of accuracy in documentation and observation, adaptability to a variety of situations, strong organizational skills, decision making and an ability to evaluate situations as they occur.

Requirements:
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including skill sets, experience, education and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It's not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are arrived at each unique case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,000-$115,000.

Job Tasks:
- Coordinates the preliminary details of the evaluation with the Admissions Coordinator. Establishes appropriate contacts prior to the evaluation. Identifies additional personnel to assist with the evaluation as needed.
- Reviews all necessary records, supplies, and forms to be utilized when conducting an evaluation. Requires extensive reading and ability to review files, electronic and paper records and other information.
- Conducts professional and comprehensive evaluations. Requires visual, verbal, auditory acuity to evaluate patients. Executing the evaluation may include involving the patients in various types of mobility exercises, neuro development sequence exercises, flexibility exercises and extremity manipulations. In addition, assesses the physical integration of individuals with brain injury to various types of surfaces including hills, stairs, even and uneven surfaces. This very often requires an ability to use proper lifting techniques, good balance, and sufficient strength to provide patients weighing up to 150 pounds with virtually all levels of assistance from standby to maximum assistance. May be required to transfer patients, push wheelchairs, or use other devices/equipment, i.e. walker, etc. Must be able to evade during a behavioral incident.
- Notifies key personnel by conversation and/or electronic or written means of the details concerning each evaluation
- Travels to the patient's location via various forms of transportation including automobile and airplane. Locations could have inclement weather conditions. Must be able to drive self and have ability and flexibility to function in new locations.
- Creates a comprehensive examination report according to the Pre-Admission Evaluation Report guidelines
- Maintains a consistent line of communication with the Director of Rehabilitation, Case Managers, Community Liaisons, Admissions Coordinators, Director of Admissions, National Director of Admissions and President, Executive Vice President(s) and/or Vice President(s) as needed regarding patient admission and pertinent patient information necessary for effective programming
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a rehabilitation related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of full time professional experience in rehabilitation.
- Demonstrated ability to apply skills in an evaluation setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable disciplines is required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
