Job Title: Radiation Therapist
Job Specialty: Radiation Therapy

Certifications: Registered by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy
Must-Have: ARDMS, ARIA Systems, Radiation Treatment
Job Description:
- Perform patient therapy treatments and related activities in accordance with established protocols.
- Administer radiation treatments to patients while maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring clinical history is complete.
- Assist physicians with patient treatments and emergency calls.
- Perform QA/QC equipment tests and simulator procedures as required.
- Maintain sterile techniques and a clean environment within the examination area.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Ability to assess data reflective of patients' status to identify requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provide necessary care.
- Report directly to the Chief Physicist and Radiation Oncology Manager.
Skills:
- Proficient in radiation treatment setup and performance.
- Operate Linear Accelerators properly.
- Fabricate immobilization devices.
- Perform CT Simulation and IGRT application.
- Competent in IMRT application and Stereotactic Radiosurgery operation.
- Ensure proper positioning of patients for treatment and simulation procedures.
- Accurately record treatment in patient charts.
- Understand departmental policy for error reporting and correction.
- Review patient charts prior to setup, understanding positioning, collimator settings, SAD/SSD, and treatment techniques.
- Recognize when physician intervention is needed according to protocol.
- Follow proper protocol for irradiating blood.
Mental Demands:
- Ability to work as a team member, cooperate with others, follow directions, demonstrate initiative, set priorities, and function under stress.
- Must be detail-oriented.
Physical Demands:
- Constant walking, balancing, standing, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Frequent stooping and sitting.
- Occasional running, climbing, crawling, and crouching.
- Rarely kneeling and throwing.
- Must lift, handle, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Able to use visual acuity for paperwork, color vision, and depth perception.
- Hearing acuity for conversation, telephone, and background noise.
- Operate equipment such as blood pressure machines, IV pumps, heart monitors, and suction machines.
Education:
- Graduate of an approved AMA school of radiation technology.
