Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Creative at the University of Rochester Medical Center, the Senior Creative and Design Specialist is a collaborative and innovative creative designer who works with clients and partners to determine innovative ways to deliver information and reach audiences across a spectrum of media (e.g. print/web/digital/video).

Using strong creative skills, develops visually engaging designs and assets for digital and print mediums, including but not limited to websites, social media, marketing campaigns and advertising, video, collateral, and posters. Adapts designs for different platforms and mediums while ensuring consistency and maintaining brand identity across all channels. As part of our marketing and communications team, this role is essential in developing and executing engaging digital and print materials that promote our organization's services.

Manages multiple projects from concept through completion, meeting deadlines and developing assets that reflect best practices and our institutional brand guidelines. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, to ensure that production meets expectations and is completed within budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creative Strategy
  • Collaborates with internal teams to conceptualize and execute design concepts that align with project goals and can be delivered across a spectrum of media (e.g. print/web/digital/video). Provides insights and innovative design solutions to develop creative strategies and design solutions that enhance contribute to business and brand objectives such as brand visibility and engagement. Actively participates in design reviews and incorporates feedback from stakeholders to refine and improve design deliverables.
Design Creation
  • Develops visually engaging designs for various digital and print assets including but not limited to websites, social media graphics, marketing collateral, brochures, posters, and advertisements.
Project Management
  • Manages design process including the review of specifications, timelines, and objectives as defined by project and creative briefs for multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and criteria are met and that design deliverables are of high quality. Ensures that all design facets are in keeping with the University's brand identity.
Brand Support
  • Provides design support for strategic brand initiatives by aligning all design work with brand, accessibility, and user experience guidelines.
Administrative Tasks
  • Collects all electronic files (text and graphic) for printing and optimizes files for use on the Web as needed. Provides printing specifications based on approved layouts or for the purpose of submitting print estimates to the client before production begins. Manages print vendor workflow to ensure that print deliverables meet design criteria, budgets, and timelines.
Photography
  • Provides on-site photography services for events, staff portraits, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years of professional graphic design experience;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strategic thinking, ability to understand client needs and provide counsel on design solutions.
  • Knowledge of best design practices for multi-media materials, understanding of production processes for both multi-media projects.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Knowledge of brand strategy and the ability to manage a complex identity system and brand architecture for a large, diverse institution.
  • Understanding of how visual assets work together to visually communicate important information.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.) with proficiency in a Mac OS X workspace
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, digital coding and design
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication
Preferred:
  • Video capabilities including capturing and editing to be used on social media, web platforms and new vehicles.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $70,197 - $103,147 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
