Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Curriculum and Instruction

Job Goal:

To provide leadership in the coordination, development and improvement of the elementary curriculum and instructional programs for the Lee County Schools.

Qualifications:
  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Hold a valid Professional Leadership Certificate as set forth by the Alabama State Board of Education.
  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
  • A minimum of five years of elementary (K-6) classroom teaching experience and three years public school administrative experience.
  • Must have served as a principal for grades that includes elementary or experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Director, Coordinator or Supervisor of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Must have working knowledge of Lee County Schools policies and procedures.
  • Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
  • Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to understand and interpret School Board policy and Code of Student Conduct.
  • Ability to represent the District at state and regional functions.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Communication
  • Conduct on-site visits to schools and individual classrooms.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with school-based and District-level administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and support for the decision-making process.
  • Use a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and exchange of ideas.
  • Use E-mail effectively.
  • Interact with businesses, community groups, District, and school personnel formally and informally, in person, by telephone, and in writing.

  • Provide leadership for a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instructional initiatives are student focused and aligned with the District's mission and beliefs and school goals and improvement plans.

  • Direct and coordinate the development of the elementary school instructional and non-instructional allocation formulas.
  • Direct and coordinate the elementary school Code of Student Conduct and manage student discipline concerns.
  • Assist with the development of educational specifications and school design.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, placement, and appraisal of elementary school administrators.
  • Interpret programs, policies, and District goals, objectives and philosophy to staff, students, and community.
  • Assist in the development of the District budget.
  • Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.

  • Serve as a district representative at emergency shelters as determined by the Superintendent.

  • Coordinate elementary school program reviews.
  • Provide leadership in curriculum and instruction and oversight of elementary schools.
  • Review elementary school improvement plans and monitor their evaluation.
  • Coordinate elementary school parent concerns.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and placement of instructional and administrative personnel.
  • Coordinate the transfer of students.
  • Facilitate reading and mathematics coaches duties between the instruction needs and State requirements and ensure their professional development.

  • Provide for the design of professional development assistance plans for assigned personnel as necessary and appropriate.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a twelve-month contract (242 days). Salary is based on board approved salary schedule.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
