Job Description:
- Assist the Nurse Manager in overall administrative direction for clinical and operational nursing practices and patient care delivery.
- Share 24-hour responsibility and accountability for all aspects of daily operational activity with the Nurse Manager.
- Participate in hiring, promotion, salary adjustment, and termination decisions for staff.
- Function as a highly visible role model, demonstrating quality expertise and professional behaviors.
- Identify and develop strategies to improve the knowledge base and professionalism of staff.
- Direct, mentor, and support all levels of staff.
- Enable a Relationship-Based care approach to ensure effective care delivery.
- Identify potential future leaders and engage in succession planning.
- Perform routine rounds on patients and caregivers to establish visibility and teamwork.
- Participate in staffing as needed based on the clinical area's requirements.
- Analyze administrative and operational functions and implement appropriate changes.
- Develop and monitor performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Support and facilitate a culture of professional governance and mentor unit committee/council chairs.
- Facilitate cooperative and collaborative relationships among departments and care areas.
- Participate in the preparation of annual capital and operating budget.
- Support the department leadership team in organizing and prioritizing capital needs.
- Develop and maintain methods to ensure patient, employee, and physician satisfaction.
- Report any unsafe activities, hazards, or violations that may cause harm.
- Daily contact is required with nursing personnel, patients, family members, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and students.
- Supervise and direct Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, Clerical staff, Clerks, and Service Assistants.
- Must possess skills in communication, interdepartmental relationships, project management, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Must be adaptable to changing situations and conditions.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations according to established procedures.
- Occasional exposure to chemical and environmental elements as per unit-based demands.
