POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of doctoral programs, the Director of Doctorate Programs will have a direct connection with doctoral students and faculty. In collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean, the Director will create, maintain, and assess doctoral programs. to support faculty and their doctoral students in completing their degree. They will work directly with the Director of Dissertations to ensure that chairs are assigned and present in the courses of their students. This person will also represent the university in doctoral defenses as needed.

The person in this role will work collaboratively with appropriate university offices as needed to meet the needs of doctoral students. This role will assist in the improvement, enhancement and development of current and new programs dealing with doctorate students. The Director of Doctorate Programs will work collaboratively across departments to support doctoral students through curriculum development, workshops, committee reviews, and other duties as assigned.

This is a role that requires strong attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as program creation, curriculum, and assessment experience. The doctoral program currently has over 700 students in the process of working on their doctoral research and dissertations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee day-to-day doctoral program operations;
  • Oversee mentored courses and serve as faculty of record as needed;
  • Assist in the support and training of doctoral faculty, including handbook and other resource development;
  • Collaborate with advising and enrollment teams to support doctoral students during their entire lifecycle;
  • Contribute to the identification and development of potential new Doctoral programs and work with the university liaison to the Maryland Higher Education Commission to assist in managing the process;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Master's Programs to ensure synergy, continuity of experience, and degree pathways between the two student divisions;
  • Assist in curriculum development of doctoral programs;
  • Ensure program assessment of all doctoral degrees are ongoing and meet accreditation needs;
  • Manage program reviews and strategic planning goals for doctoral programs;
  • Serve on the ARB and/or IRB committee and other institutional committees;
  • Participate in dissertation defenses; serving as Graduate School representative as needed;
  • Attend monthly virtual Doctoral Open House meetings for potential Doctoral students and provide answers to student questions;
  • Provide Registration and Records timely information on doctoral students' progress as needed for student transcripts;
  • Assist the graduate team to create and implement policies and processes and develop associated tasks as needed;
  • Serve as a doctoral chair to students as needed;
  • Other duties as needed to support the success of the doctoral programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctorate degree and minimum of five years teaching experience required; degree in a STEM related field, preferred;
  • Experience teaching online, STEM and master's/doctoral experience preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing curriculum in an online delivery format;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing assessment protocols in an online delivery;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and administering faculty training and evaluations;
  • Experience working with SIS and LMS to design, deliver, and assess the student experience, specific Jenzabar and Canvas experience preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in regional accreditation preparation, planning, and compliance assurance;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced academic setting;
  • Conflict management, customer service, and hiring experience.

Physical Demands

There are limited physical demands; however, this position requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone. The candidate must be able to pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. with or without accommodation.
