PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Administers instructional programs and supervises all activities and services to provide maximum educational opportunities for all pupils that align with and fulfill each program's mission.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Certified and non-certified building staff in the program(s)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities to enhance the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
  • The primary responsibility of the secondary principal is to assume a leadership role in the implementation of a college and career education center, supporting instruction, initiatives for improving student achievement, curriculum delivery, staff development, and community partnerships.
  • Assumes major responsibilities for effectively implementing curriculum policies formulated by the Board and the administrative regulations established by the Superintendent.
  • Completes all District, State, and Federal reports in accordance with procedures and timelines established by the District.
  • Facilitates participation in professional development programs for certified and noncertified staff members to enhance their competencies, specifically to support best practices in career and technical education and college and career readiness..
  • Communicates the school's goals, accomplishments, practices, and policies to parents, students, and the community.
  • Facilitates the school improvement planning process to enhance all curricular and work-based learning programs.
  • Secures healthy, safe, and efficient school campus operation and maintenance.
  • Evaluates all staff members in accordance with Illinois School Code, District procedures and timelines.
  • Provides supervisory assistance in such areas as instructional delivery, curriculum delivery, and special education and support services to enhance student achievement.
  • Prepares, administers, and monitors budgets for the identified programs.
  • Assumes the responsibility for the recommending of personnel for the school, in cooperation with the Department of Human Resources.
  • Interprets the work of the school to the community by developing lines of communication with parents and professional staff regarding the school's goals, accomplishments, practices, and policies and by encouraging community involvement in the plans and programs of the school.
  • Manages and coordinates supervision of all extracurricular activities related to the college and career education center.
  • Supporting and creating program and curriculum design and implementation aligned to the needs of the college and career education center
  • Attends meetings and professional development that occurs outside of the school day.

  • QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree and proper certification in accordance with the Illinois School Code.

  • Knowledge of Federal Perkins and State CTEI funding strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of college and career readiness benchmarks and the academy model
  • Demonstrable proficiency in the following: a variety of research-based techniques/programs, facilitating groups and working with adult learners in the administration and analysis of assessments and the use of data to guide instructional practice and intervention, common technology platforms, a growth mindset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use the data from assessments/walk throughs to inform changes in classroom instruction with a focus on problem and project based learning
  • High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to create long range goals with executable timelines and innovative outcomes.


  • WORK CALENDAR: 12 Months

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
